Curly Wurly - pieces of coconut are the devil

Sep 16, 2012 22:31

I purchased a tub of Curly Wurly in early July, and eventually exchanged it for a chunk of Trichomania, not because I didn't like the smell or what it did to my hair, but because those little coconut pieces? Holy jeez I could not get them all out of my hair ( Read more... )

shampoo: trichomania, shampoo, shampoo: curly wurly

Have you tried combing it out? I had the same issue until I learned to comb through and rinse twice. Usually that's enough to do the trick.

Yeah I comb it out with my conditioner. I've always combed my hair (with a wide tooth comb) when washing out my conditioner anyway because it helps make my hair more managable when drying and leads to less breakage anyway and this always gets about 99% of the Curly Wurly coconut out as well.

I generally don't need to comb my hair with anything but my fingers in the shower, it never tangles. I'll try that.

I finger-comb in the shower, but I'll definitely try this next time I get it.

actually, a couple years ago, Lush pureed the coconut to make the pieces smaller and whatnot, and people complained, so they went back to using dessicated coconut instead!

huh! I just think it's kind of silly in the first place to have small bits of ANYTHING for curly/wavy/wurly hair... if any texture is likely to swallow things up it's curly hair!

I would try to blend it using a food processor or something, rather than strain it just because you'll still get the benefit of the coconut pieces without the chunky bits.

I also suggest the food processor if you own one. My Curly Wurly has been looking chunkier but I can usually comb it out. I also only use a small amount. I take the smallest sample container and put in enough to fill it halfway at most and it coats my hair. Then again, my hair is also thin.

I'll try the food processor. Mine's VERY thick, and I found that it lathered well enough when just used on the roots that I didn't need to use too much, but definitely more than half of the smallest sampler!

Can you adjust the water pressure/intensity of your shower head? I heard this helped quite a few people.

No. :( It makes me sad all the time! When I was having trouble with it I kept thinking that higher water pressure would likely help.
