Bath Bombs/bubble bars and Tub damage

Apr 25, 2011 12:50

I read on here awhile back about certain bubble bars and bath bombs staining/ruining bathtubs. My bf and I just got a new house with a nice new tub in it so I can finally start using bath goodies... but I want to know which ones to stay away from.

I searched for a bit and can't really find anything about this (if I missed it, I'm sorry!)

I think it depends on the tub, but for me the only products to ever leave a ring were Sex Bomb and Donkey Oatey. Both came off with some scrubbing.

If you get in a jam, I've heard Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can work really well on Lush tub stains :)

i had some staining with honey bee and the retro fox in the flowers.
most people are honest in the reviews on the lush website and will tell you if they got staining in the tubs :)

Well I purchased some on here a bit ago and they were discontinued so I couldn't look them up on the Lush site :/ I will look up the others before I buy though! Thanks!

The only time I've gotten stains was when my tub already had soap scum around the edges. It seemed like it was just the soap scum that got stained, not the actual tub, and it all came off with a bit of scrubbing.

This. I've never had a Lush bomb or bubble bar stain the actual tub. Just like anything else coloured you might bathe with, it will stick to "tub ring" / soap scum / random body oils that accumulate around the water line when you bathe. They come right off, even with natural cleaners and a sponge, but if you're the sort who uses the regular sorts of cleaner, Clorox Cleanup will even take hair dye (which does stain!) off of sinks/tubs/toilets/floors (you name it, i've seen someone get dye on it), so you should be fine.

That makes sense with the "tub ring" and I will probably pick up the Clorox Cleaner since I do dye my hair on occasion (wasn't aware anything could get rid of those stains). Thanks!

This.
The only bad bath staining I've had was with Black Pearl (which you sadly can't get anymore anyhow *goes to cry in the corner*)

The best thing to clean my tub of any Lush residue I found was coalface.

My biggest problem was with red bombs (especially the satsumo santa). I had to scrub them clean with lysol bathroom cleaner and comet
most the others just leave a residue ring that I am able to spray away

THIS! I only had the problem with red ones. Satsumo smells good, but not worth the work IMO. Plus, my tub was already clean.

Hmmm I've never had any issues with satsumo!

The biggest problem I had was with the Blackberry bath bomb...normally I can just swipe around the top of the tub with a Magic Eraser and it's gone. The purple stains from Blackberry WOULD NOT GO AWAY. Eventually they faded, but those were definitely the worst.

I've found that besides Blackberry, the orange/yellow colored ones seem to be the only ones that stain my tub (Cinders, Honey Bee, etc.) and they have all been easily wiped up with a Magic Eraser.

really? I haven't gotten that one, but I may be careful since you said that.

Yeah it was weird. I've tried that bomb twice and both times I got crazy stains - like on the actual tub, not just on soap scum or buildup. Which made me sad, because I actually love the scent/color of Blackberry :(
