So because of the after-holiday sale I've found myself with a TON of soap. Right now they are all wrapped up in lush papers and sitting together in a plastic drawer. I was wondering what was the best way to store my soap so that it stays fresh as long as it can AND doesn't take on the smells of the other soap ( Read more... )

I'd probably put them all in individual zip-lock bags?

And I presume that if you keep the soaps dry and cut pieces off to use unless you want to use each soap as you go, then they will last quite a long time. I wouldn't know for sure, but the air tight bags will help.

I store mine without the paper in plastic sandwich bags with a label saying what they are and when I bought them. I then store the bags in a glass cookie jar. Mine have kept for well over a year like this. Don't store them with the wrapper on otherwise the wrapper soaks up the scent and moisture, leaving you with a brittle bit of bland soap.

I just put all of my soaps into little plastic baggies and put the sticker on them so I know the names. Thanks for the advice!

Ditto everyone else re: taking off the paper and putting them in plastic bags; as far as expiry goes, the general rule for Lush is 14 months, but soaps have a tendency to last far beyond that anyway. I have a block of Mudflats that's at least 20 months old, that's still in perfectly good condition. YMMV, of course, but generally you end up using the soap up before it becomes useless.

I freeze all my soap if I don't intend to use it right away. I have a chest full of it, since I, like everyone else, buy a lot of it when it goes on sale. What I do is unwrap it, cut it into usable chunks, rewrap and then put the rewrapped chunks into ziploc bags. The double wrap prevents what I think was freezer burn (basically, there was some scent loss. Soap was perfectly good though) and saves the food in your fridge from smelling and tasting like LUSH (not as good as it sounds, trust me. Ice cream that smell of patchouli is just off-putting ( ... )

I usually unwrap them from the paper/LUSH plastic and re-wrap them tightly in saran wrap. I keep em under my sink (it stays pretty cool down there).

Isn't Snowglobe wonderful?? I initially thought it looked pretty boring, but then I got 2 bars in gift sets and I'm in LOVEEE.
