Ruby Red Slippers & Moisturizers

Nov 09, 2010 17:07

So I ordered a ton of Ruby Red Slippers from the chat party. I still had two left over from last year and I compared the scents and they're... not quite the same. The 2010 bbs smell exactly like Potion Lotion, which is similar to Ruby Red smell but not exactly the same. The bars from years past are spicier. Anyone else notice the change ( Read more... )

moisturizer: enzymion, bubble bar: holiday (ruby red slippers-d, moisturizer: vanishing cream

I had the same problem with celestial--i am dry and sensitive and not acne-prone, and for the month and a half that I used it I developed new pimples every day. I wanted so hard to like it because I love Lush, but I realized it was the cocoa butter (being normally dry I wasn't accustomed to looking out for comedogenic ingredients) and once I stopped using it, I cleared up. I like some of Lush's skin care (ultra bland in particular is one of my go-to cleansers), but the moisturizers haven't worked for me.

Gorgeous doesn't have any shea or cocoa butter in it, but it does have coconut oil, which can be pore-clogging. It's also much more expensive than the other creams.

You should be able to return the Vanishing Cream for store credit, even if it's been a few months (as long as it's not expired).

I had the same trouble as you regarding the moisturisers. My skin seems to hate any butters and that unfortunately means that I can't use the Lush ones. When my skin was much dryer I was able to use Afterlife (d/c) until I bought a 2nd pot that was a hell of a lot thicker than the last (I really despise the way that Lush can get away with that by saying it's handmade). I occasionally test out new moisturisers when they come out but they've never worked. I've had to use other brands on my face. I only use Ocean Salt now (although my current pot is quite harsh on my skin).

I'm acne-prone and love Vanishing Cream, because of the witch hazel in it. Sometimes if you spray on toner (like in your case, Tea Tree Water) before putting on a moisturizer it can cut down some of the heaviness. Your results may vary, though.

Imperialis has olive oil and Cosmetic Lad has almond oil, but to me those are heavier than Vanishing Cream. Did you actually try the Enzymion before you returned it? Because it's the lightest moisturizer we sell. Cocoa butter is not the main ingredient. :)

Lush has a 100% return policy, you should be able to exchange it no problem.

Yeah, I've never had any issues exchanging things at LUSH. They're always awesome about it! =)

Of course I tried enzymion before returning it. I said that in the post. I tried really hard to love it.

I got Oil of Olay moisturizer that costs 1/4 as much as Enzymion and so far so good. Enzymion started burning on my face when the winter heating started drying my skin; this cheap moisturizer does not burn. I love Lush but the prices for the moisturizers are insane. Why should I pay $40 to slather oil on my face? Vanishng Cream, made specifically for acne-prone skin, breaks me out worst of all. I think I'm gonna stop using Lush skincare altogether because (and I mean this as kindly as possible), I just don't trust their process of creating facial products enough to keep risking breakouts and scarring. I'm gonna stick with brands that actually know what they're doing for my skin's health, as opposed to making creams that smell and look pretty but cost me gobs of money.

Ha whoops, I guess I just read "I got freaked out by the cocoa butter so I returned it."

So I don't work for olay and don't know the ingredients, but i'd much rather put plant products on my face than petroleum. Drugstore cosmetics have always skeeved me out. :(

Yeah the mosturizers aren't cheap, but you don't have to slather your face... that's the thing. A little goes a long way. I bought my pot of VC in march & its still going.

But I guess you gotta do what your skin likes!

Ever since Lush discontinued Afterlife (which had no cocoa or shea butter) which I loved, I've been unable to use their moisturizers. Besides, I refuse to buy skincare from a company that routinely discontinues popular, effective products (they are discontinuing Paradise Regained, which is what they sold to me as a replacement, though it contains cocoa butter and broke me out). It's sad but not that big a deal if my bath bomb disappears, but for skin care that's just not cool. I buy most of my products from Korres now.

I didn't have an issue with celestial but I did only use it around my eyes.. I'm super super acne-prone on my chin area and get scared to even put a moisturizer down there...
But, and this isn't Lush so nobody hate me :P, Argan Oil has been my savior. If you buy 100% Argan Oil (I use Josie Maran's).. it's organic and it actually inhibits the production of sebum (which causes acne) in your pores.. there have been studies that show it helps dry skin, acne, psoriasis, eczema and wrinkles...
I feel like I'm writing a commercial.. haha but really.. here's an article on it..

Also.. this is the only thing I've ever been able to slather on my face and not have breakouts the next day, because like I mentioned, it slows production of sebum.
It's also really great on dry hair.. I could go on but I'm done now.. lol
