in the past, i'd have lush pre-slice my soap for my convenience, but to be honest, if you were to store it as a whole piece (especially since its in a shape) and just cut off the bit you need for the next few showers, the scent should last longer. the soap, when its freshly cut, has a stronger scent. at least, i dont feel 'honey i washed the kids' is very honey-scented in my set of slices, but when i was at their store, they had a hunk of freshly cut and you could smell it much better there than at my house.
also the benefit to cutting off just the little bit you want to use is you can use multiple scents throughout the week, or use one scent every week (which is what i like to do). i swap scents every few showers so that might be an idea too. good luck! oh, and once you cut it, i recommend storing it in a ziplock just to keep it from air/dust
Hmm, thanks for the tip. I'm normally all for cutting into smaller pieces - the only reason I asked this time is because it's shaped like a maple leaf and I couldn't help but feel like it would be a shame to cut it up, haha. I guess I'd better do it anyway though.
sure :) i mean, if you plan on continuing using it the entire time until its gone, you really don't need to cut it if you don't want to - i just figured other lushies like me like to swap up scents every few days LOL
I would cut it up smaller and keep the remaining in a zip lock bag. My partner cut a big piece of Demon in the Dark and I've found that it hardly smells now.
I like to cut everything into small pieces. It's just easier for me to change to a different scent that way. And I have a mischievous kitten who loves to shove anything on the side of the tub into the water while I bathe so I worry about my soaps melting away before I can fish them out of the water.
I must be the only one who uses it big. I like big soap, you know? I only have one or two on the go at the same time, I'm too lazy to cut it and I have enough trouble stopping the Cat eating my Lush goodies anyway. The scent does calm down a bit, after a couple of weeks I no longer walk into my bathroom and go 'wow, holy sexy peel', but I prefer my scents subtle anyway. It still smells like sexy peel and when I use it I can smell it. I've got perfume to last me the rest of the day.
i use the stuff big too. i've used soap before by cutting off pieces, and i definitely find it nicer and easier to use molded bars and shaped soaps whole. when i cut from a chunk of soap (like i have pounds and pounds, from the holiday sale..lol), i cut a size similar to the molded bars. too small and it's just annoying to use, imo
I only cut something if it seems unreasonable to hold the entire thing in the shower (like when I got a pound of angel's delight, I've been slicing pieces off that) but I don't like cutting things that don't need to be.
I find that when I cut mine into pieces, I'm more likely to get stuck with that almost-useless-but-too-big-to-just-toss piece of soap.
