I always cut block things into smaller pieces, 30-50g each usually. Too small and it becomes anti-helpful :)
I'm not a regular user of FF, but when I have used it... I wet my face, dip the block in the water quickly & rub it over my face, and then massage it in and wash off :)
I agree that it should be used in smaller chunks. I would also recommend keeping the big block in the fridge - I was having problems with it drying out quickly, and one of my local SAs suggested trying that. I find it keeps the block a bit more moist so it's not as prone to drying out in the soap dish.
Personally, I don't tend to rub the bar directly on my face - I lather it like a soap, and then rub the lather on my face.
I rub the soap right on my face. And I also cut off chunks. I have been working on my current (pretty small though still big enough to use) for going on 5 weeks.
That's how I use fresh farmacy. My bit of it isn't huge, its just about the size of my hand I guess and I've been using it for a few months. If it were bigger I'd be tempted to cut it into pieces but its doing just fine as one block.
