Hello all! I'm a relative newcomer to Lush, and as I will have the opportunity to visit a Lush store next week (a once in a blue moon occurrence) I thought I would use the opportunity to really refine my facial regimen.
Maybe you should try Herbalism if you like Dark Angels but find it too irritating for every day. I also recommend continuing with Ultra Bland at night for at least two weeks to see if it's working for you. You can use toner on a cotton pad to swipe off every last bit of the cleanser :)
You know, I tried Herbalism for a couple of weeks, and I wasn't overly impressed - it was okay, I guess, but I didn't see it doing much for my skin and I never felt like it left my face really clean. Aqua Marina seemed like it did a better job of really cleaning. I might give it a second try, though - I know it's supposed to be good for acne.
And yeah, I do think Ultrabland deserves a better shot than I've given it - I think there's just a part of me that can't quite deal with smearing something that greasy all over my face. But I'll get used to it, I'm sure. *g*
For exfoliation that I find calming, I love Angels on Bare Skin. My skin isn't particularly oily, in fact, it's usually quite dry, but I am prone to an occasional hormonal breakout. Recently, these breakouts have been quite severe. So, I've been trying a bit of everything. Which is probably not that wise.
However, I've found that I like using Fresh Farmacy. It's quite calming to my skin, feels very cooling and has helped with redness. I requested a sample. It might be worth it for you to request a sample, too. Just to see how it works.
You may also want to try Grease Lightning as a spot treatment. It's incredibly drying, but effective. I know people swear by Sweet Japanese Girl for blackheads, but I have yet to see any results.
I'm not as keen on Tea Tree Water, which is supposed to be good for acne prone skin. I'd maybe suggest alternating between it and Eau Roma.
Cupcake fresh face mask is a thing of wonder. And you may want to invest in a few Tea Tree Toner Tabs. They're relatively inexpensive.
I totally agree about Grease Lightning. It says to use it 2-3 times a day and omgggggg if you follow that? MIRACLES OCCUR. I get those horrible big red blemishes that hurt, but hardly ever come to a head and using Grease Lightning 2-3 times a day on them when they first show up makes them go away a lot faster. I love it.
As an alternative to Dark Angels every day, you could try Coalface every other day because they're extremely similar products. But use it by rubbing the bar between your hands because otherwise, it'll be too harsh.
Also... I'm not sure how you're using your Ultrabland, but I have crazy oily skin and I agree, I'm not thrilled about smearing even more oil all over my face. However, it works amazingly to take off my makeup, so I deal with it. I usually wipe it all off with a warm washcloth, tone, and don't moisturize afterwards (UB is already moisturizing enough). Seems to get every bit off just fine :]
I have AOBS and love it but loved it more when I picked up a sample of DA and dumped it into AOBS. It gives me the right exfoliation and the AOBS keeps my skin moisturized.
I use the mixture in the shower and use Fresh Farmacy in the a.m. when I'm not too lazy to just tone + moisturize. It's great and calming for my skin. I love how clean my face feels after I use it. I sometimes use it to wash of AOBS. I don't find it drying at all. It could be that I tone and moisturize after.
I would use the DA or FF at night and just tone + moisturize in the a.m. for starters. I was shocked at how well my skin took to it.
