The only part of that movie that I really think is worth anything is the scene where the President is speaking with the U.S. ambassador in Moscow.

The really frightening thing about Matthau's character is that he was based on Herman Kahn, a respected analyst from the Cold War era. However, the character's views of the Russians is also similar to that of General Curtis LeMay, who was Chief of Staff of the USAF at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
