Nightwatch

The next time I see Brendan I'm going to smack him. This was...gah. It starts out ok enough. Goofy medieval flashback with expository voice-over. Sets up for a Modern Horror/Fantasy setting with a Nightwatch (good supernaturals) and Daywatch (bad supernaturals) patrolling each others' community for rule breakers. Sounds cool? Sure. To brighten your day, I gather there's going to be a sequel to this movie. More instant depression in a box.

From what I recall reading back when this movie first hit the states, its supposed to be part of a trilogy. Don't know if any of the others have been or will be made...

Dude, it's part of a trilogy of books. Think of it as exposition for the next movie. I will agree it's got pacing issues and that they didn't make the tie between the kid and the cursed chick clear at all. In the book, the situation with the kid is all just a smokescreen so the woman, a major unknown Sorceress, will get killed or bagged by the bad guys.

There's some other stuff going on with the kid, but that doesn't get developed 'til the third book... I guess there fast-tracking some of it. The only thing that really bugged me was the use of a videogame as a scrying tool? Yeah, that was stupid and confusing, and made the ancient badguy seem like this complete tool. It seemed as if they were trying to make it hip, or something.

Well, anyway, if you and Noah hate it so badly, why hasn't there been a Rant about it yet? Noah should get on that.

If a movie requires that I read a book to make it work, then it UTTERLY fails as a movie. And this was a total failure as a movie...

Fair enough. I really can't fault that line of arguement, even if I liked the movie. I would suggest you read the book on its own merit.
