I`ve read through The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and I just stopped a page and a chapter away from the end of The Amber Spyglass. Yeah. Superb series. Non-crappy ending too, btw.

I'm kinda worried about the movie version turning into another Narnia mishap. Because, well, Narnia is admittedly inferior, but that movie was just BAD. Yeeach.

But it has Nicole Kidman in it and another child actress named Dakota that's totally gonna win an Oscar or something, so it might be okay.

I know this is a little late, but I went and saw it (the movie) when it came out and they got the scenes accurate, but they rearranged them..>( Some things they changed too, like Serafina gives Lyra the prophecy test on the ship to the North, and Hester is so outspoken, in the books she was much more like a rabbit, always stoic. Meh, maybe they will do better on the second movie. (Half the audience was appalled at the ending because they were unaware there will be a 2nd and 3rd movie.)
