Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: Reid's thoughts post kiss in the bridal suite at the Lakeview.

Author's Note: Apparently, I have sub-conscious issues about this episode. I don't love this, but I can't seem to get it to a point where I do, so I'm posting it anyway. Noah kinda takes a beating here, which was not my intent, but what came out. I think I need therapy.

The blushing really should have been his first clue.

Reid is kicking himself. He should have seen this coming. It shouldn't be such a shock that Luke wants to wait.

He lets his mind drift back over the last few weeks, suggestive comments he's made.

“Or we could skip the movie, go back to your place...”

“You know, you're kinda hot. I know you're only a nurse, but, uh, you wanna play doctor?”

“What if I only want to play nice with you?”

Luke's reaction had been the same every time. A smile, breathtaking as it always is. Ducking his head, coyly glancing at Reid through his eyelashes. And the blushing.

In every one of those moments, Luke's avoided the situation. The elephant in the room. Until now.

Because in hindsight, it should have been obvious. The reason for Luke's reaction, his hesitation to go there with Reid.

Noah fucking Mayer. The fucking elephant in the fucking room that's keeping him from fucking Luke.

Noah, doing such a number on Luke, that - even after all the hurtful things Noah has put him through - Luke still loves him. Still wants Noah to be a part of his life. Noah's broken Luke's ability to trust anything new, and Luke still wants him around. Reid's disliked a multitude of people for a number of reasons, mostly mind-numbing idiocy. He's never hated anyone before.

He thinks, somewhere - as he's yet to see one - that Noah must have some redeeming qualities. There must be a reason that Luke loves him. Just like there's a reason for Luke to want to be with Reid. He has no idea what that reason is, but he's glad about it just the same. This thing with Luke, it's...it's not love, not yet, but it could be.

Luke's smiling at him, thrilled that Reid is so understanding. And he does understand.

Luke needs time. Time to be sure. Time to trust. Time to fall in love.

That's just fine with Reid.

He's got all the time in the world.
