Title: I couldn't save your life tonight
Rating: pg-13
Summary: Reid's death, but mildly more medically accurate.
Warnings: depressing.
A/n: inspired by last week's FunFicFriday prompt: "someone saved my life tonight," even though it's the complete opposite of the prompt, and there's nothing "fun" about it.
A bit off-canon: Holden is somehow there with

"There should have been wailing and gnashing of teeth. Oh, wait, that was me in front of my tv. LOL."
LOL love it!
I couldn't agree more with you and kccalgal, that storyline was an absolute shambles from start to finish. And don't get me started on the type of doctor who treats a viral infection with antibiotics!! Damn that dimply paediatrician.
It was ridiculous how Bob&co were so worried about Luke seeing Reid being brought in, but once Luke knew, everyone disappeared on him. Although I honestly couldn't tell you why it was Holden who was comforting Luke - I don't think they interacted at all during that storyline!

Anyway, what I really liked about your fic is the emotion you give Luke. You can really feel his agony as you read. This was so sad.

Thank you for that very flattering feedback, it was so hard to get into Luke's head without wanting to take a razor blade to my wrists.
This about covers it I suppose:

As painful as post-train fics are to read, yours was infinitesimally better than the cold-hearted/devoid-of-any-emotion crap they showed on TV.
So, thanks.

But thank you for your feedback, i suppose you mean that milking Luke's pain was done with too much relish?

The prevalent feeling that has stayed with me, though, is one of sheer disbelief at how the other characters acted throughout/just after that gut-wrenching-moment-that-never-happened. Or, rather, didn't act.
I remember simply staring at my screen when they started showing those sequences, uncomprehending. It honestly felt so OOC for the likes of Bob, Katie, etc. to barely portray any real emotion at Reid's death. There was, of course, so much more wrong with that entire story arc but the way his death was brushed aside made it feel like it was a mere plot point to facilitate *insert sarcasm here* Oakdale's sweetheart/Doogie Hughes' happily ever after. Ugh.
I really tend to ignore all of that as canon because, otherwise, hardly any of the other secondary characters would make an appearance in my fics.

Your response makes so much more sense now. *head-desk*
Rest assured, what I meant to say was that your version is so, so much better! :)
PS: also, I assumed what you said about Luke's pain was in reference to the show, NOT your fic. My first response to your comment is built around that... sorry about this mess!
