=====

Reid cast his eyes up to the roof of the elevator cab and heaved a dramatic sigh. “If you’ve come here to apologize for doubting me, why don’t you save it till tomorrow? Right now, I’m too tired to enjoy this the way I should.”

“You think I’m here to apologize?” Luke bellowed, his voice far too loud for such a small space. “Ha!”

This is a really well written and expertly crafted story. I love the back story of the marble and Reid's grandmother. Poor Luke! Giving up some of Reid's possessions was heartbreaking, but he got something he didn't have before--the story behind the marble which is something he couldn't get from anyone else.

OK...it's been a LONG time since I read a fic that made me cry, but this one broke me.

Poor, poor Luke - he's lost the love of his life, and then this MAN breezes into his life pretending to be him. And I can FEEL the frustration and anger and hurt that he felt in that elevator. If I were Luke, I wouldn't understand how Bob and Katie and John accepted him, either, especially after how horribly Reid died. Nope.

But I also feel so badly for Reid. He doesn't understand what's going on, but his life is/has been a mess and all he wants to do is be a doctor again. I mean, he tried to KILL himself rather than live life without a medical license!

When Luke walked into his office, called him Dr. Oliver and offered him the coat, that's when I lost it. The culmination of all of those feelings and Luke's apparent surrender - it was so, so sad. But Luke being generous and giving new!Reid Reid's coat...wow. It really affected me.

I can't wait for the next chapter. I really want to hug them both, they need it so badly!

Awww, they're connecting. Love that Luke's gesture of bringing the coat and the personal effects for Reid. The story about the marble was charming, and very Reid.

Ooh, I forgot to mention in my last comment how much I loved the elevator. It took it to its logical conclusion: claustrophobia + exhaustion = not fun times for Reid. That was awesome.

Wow, that sure was a heart wrenching chapter! I felt Luke was torturing Reid! It is very in character for Luke to be extremely mean when drunk. I think that's as much a part of having a drinking problem as not being able to moderate the amount one drinks. Luke has even been shown to be violent when drunk. He hit Casey once; and I don't think that is something he'd ever do while sober. (Fortunately, he apparently wasn't very good at throwing a punch. He didn't even seem to knock Casey off balance or even cause Casey much physical pain. I think Casey literally said "Ow," and then went right on trying to convince Luke to stop drinking or something.) Still, Luke really shouldn't drink not just for his own health; but because he does tend to hurt others while drunk something I'm sure he greatly regrets later ( ... )

This story is amazing and the dialogue is so powerful. The Reid POV is so well done, and you also seem to have Luke's impassioned voice coming straight from your heart. It was just one powerful moment after another here. I love this.
