Sometimes when I am waiting to meet Hiedi somewhere (*coughbarcough*), I will pick up a magazine to read, because I finish work an hour earlier than her everyday. But the only magazines I like are Maclean's (which I subscribe to) and dumb stuff like Esquire and GQ. And I am so embarrassed to be seen reading Esquire and GQ!
They don't know me! They don't know that I know these things are so trashy and dumb!!
And for that matter, part of me hates being seen by certain people while I am watching hockey at the Gold Rush! Because people who are hip automatically dismiss it! But I am hip and I will talk to you about gender issues or the new play at the Guild just as soon as the intermission comes around, ok? But you might not know it to look at me! :p
See - I think it's dumb that I cared when I was in Montreal, but I can sort of rationalize caring up here. Because there are so few people and even fewer people that I would *want to be friends with*, I hate thinking that just by doing something I enjoy, I might be writing them off as friends, sort of. Does that make sense?
It's not really an excuse. As I say it's a rationalization, but I am able to justify feeling that way in my mind, haha.
You know what the worst ones are? The Shopaholic ones...I ended up reading my bff's copy on a flight b/c I ran outta reading material and I kept going "What is wrong with this girl?"
Others are better - another random trip read that had me going "aww" was 'Bet Me' by Jennifer Crusie.
I did the same thing with the Traveling Sisterhood Pants book; I was on a flight home from England which is reallly long, and I'd read everything already. But that's actually a cute book (series).
Omg, I am still on board the Sweet Valley High train. Ihaven't read those in forever. I remember feeling so grown-up when I started reading the college ones... hahaha. Oh man, those were fun books. I need to find some and read them.

But just because I'm going to a Maroon 5 concert tonight doesn't mean I have bad taste in music.
