Thanks for sperading the word on how awful these places are. That's one of the biggest reasons we buy local when possible, and what we can't get locally we do our best to buy from small companies that don't use these giant warehouses. When we really have to order from one of the big beasts it's stuff we can't get any other way; basically, cases of printer paper (because we can't get 50 lbs of paper home on the bus with a mile walk at the other end of the line, yanno?) and ink cartridges that only the big office supply stores stock.
I knew there was a reason I don't like Amazon... I prefer to buy local or through Etsy and other private sellers (but NOT through eBay!), and will continue to do so. Thanks for the article link; it was ugly, but we NEED to know stuff like this is really happening.
Why am I NOT surprised?? ::sigh:: Although I try not to use UPS, FedEx or DHL, and ask for USPS whenever possible, I can totally see this happening. And unfortunately, doing all that can take forever, and not be much help to the workers for a very long time. Still, something to think about and work on.
I worked at Amazon for a while - the joke I've heard is that it's the Seattle equivalent to having worked food services, everyone's done it at some point - and the experience is still kind of a bad taste in my mouth. Tell you more about it elsewhere though.
