Gorgeous--both the churches and the landscape.

Thank you. The landscape really is breathtaking. I want to see it in the winter with snow everywhere one day.

I was totally doing some research about Mt Ararat recently, but I didn't realise it used to be part of Armenia. Those churches are beautiful, thanks for sharing this!

Ha, that's pretty awesome. Yeah, Ararat is one of the things that's pretty much synonomous with Armenia in our minds, ironically enough. You can see it from the capitol city, as in that photo, and when you land in the airport.

Well given I didn't know the geography of Armenia before you made this post, it's definitely helped me with my understanding of where it's located now! :D

You're right, I had no idea that Armenia was the first country with official christianity. And sadly enough I did not know much about the genocide. :(

These pics are awesome! I'm a total fan of old churches and buildings.

Thanks for sharing, that was great! :):)

It's actually interesting that you mention the politics with Turkey as a reason for not recognition. Germany has the biggest turkish population and a lot of turkish influence (outside of Turkey obviously) and they recognize it.

they recognize it

Officially? I think I've read otherwise.

Oh I don't know. It's what the link on your entry says :)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recognition_of_the_Armenian_Genocide#Governments
