He has always liked cold mornings. There’s something vivid about the chill. Refreshing. Brisk.
James doesn’t like cold mornings, or rather likes cold mornings in a different way; James likes seasons, and change, and the excitement of autumn in the air, giant sweaters and fluffy scarves and pumpkin-spice coffee, the tangible coziness of the world.
I kind of appreciate Michael's viewpoint here. Crisp Autumn mornings, especially when the sun is out and the leaves are golden, are lovely. But really, I think I'm more with James on this subject - my favourite thing about crisp Autumn days is watching them through the window, curled up in the warm on my sofa!
At this point, several events happen in rapid succession: Michael tries to push himself to his feet, discovers bruises in places he didn’t know he had, attempts to unfold his right ankle, and gets knocked back onto the ground by white-hot pain.Only of my most vivid memories from childhood is pretty much exactly this happening to me (minus ( ... )

I think it's also part of my personal head-canon that Michael likes the cold. He seems like he would: it's very crisp and bright and alive. (James also likes the cold, not for the weather itself, but because the weather gets Michael to cuddle him and bring him cups of holiday-flavored coffee.) I suspect that I am also James in this case, plus Evil Demon Cat on lap and a good book...
Oh, ouch, poor you! I've actually done that, too--skating team practice--and it's such an awful, sickening feeling, isn't it? And you can't believe it's not even broken, or anything; ought to be a real injury, right, if it's going to hurt that much! *hands your ankle belated fluffy pillow*
I shouldn't laugh, but this is a hilarious image! That's pretty much why Kevin's there. Guaranteed bonus hilarity, any time. (Though...some part of me now wonders why he's so very concerned about Michael, and wants to write a tragic tale of unrequited love...No ( ... )

Yep, that's the reason I'd like it too! ;) Although I'd probably just have to appreciate the thought of the holiday flavoured coffee, as I can't stand any coffee with milk in...

My ankle belatedly says thank you! (Although it was about 20 years ago!)
(Though...some part of me now wonders why he's so very concerned about Michael, and wants to write a tragic tale of unrequited love...No.)
Awwwwwww, this kind of makes me sad. Poor Kevin... :(
And, anyway, you wouldn't say those things out loud, even if you *think* the person's sleeping, if you didn't on some level wonder what might happen if they heard...
Oh yes, there would definitely be that subconscious (or perhaps not so subconscious) wanting the other person to hear. That hope that you could never quite let go of that they would somehow feel the same way, and joy would magically happen (which of course it did in this instance!).
But at ( ... )

Sorry about the Kevin thing! I almost didn't share that one, because now I'm just going to feel bad for him all the time in fic! NOT a headcanon, no! Kevin's just a naturally nice person!
That hope that you could never quite let go of that they would somehow feel the same way, and joy would magically happen
Precisely this! And where'd we be without hope, hmm? Even if we know that those stories are so incredibly rare...we also want to believe that they can happen, unexpectedly, splendidly, like the best euphoric turn out of apathy (thanks, Tolkien!). And we like to believe that that kind of patient, longing love can be rewarded, in the end. (And now I want to quote Twelfth Night at you, but shall restrain myself...)
All the persuasion! Once Michael's feeling better, of course. Then they can demonstrate exactly how much they do mean those words. Over, and over...

Thank you so much for this. /hugs!!!

This fandom need more protective!James, I suspect. It's not my default, but it's such fun, and he so would be! And Michael doesn't really mind. Kind of a turn-on, in fact. And then the top!James happens. Because, you know, James isn't going to let them do anything that might put stress on Michael's leg, and that of course might require creative ways of keeping Michael horizontal in bed...
That indeed sounds like a Death Truck! Not very friendly of it. Hopefully you can sell it and get something more compassionate soon!

James seems to me like he'd be the protective type. Well, they both do really, but James being so caring and kind definitely would be. Especially about people he cares a lot about (such as Michael). And I bet he'd come up with many creative ways to keep Michael horizontal in bed. hehehe.
The truck is official gone! Well, it's been taken to our mechanic who is helping us sell it and my mom now has a car. So, no more death truck.

Agreed about James and the protective. I think I said so at greater length in a comment on one of your posts, but: I do think he'd be very determined to keep safe the people he loves! Because he does care, that much, unreservedly and fiercely. And sometimes a bit too selflessly, but then that's when Michael gets to be protective of *him*!
Hooray for new car! I assume this one is much more friendly. :-)

And it was so adorable! I love it that James is being the one who is totally overprotective in this fic! He was totally adorable, while he worried so much. Also it's nice that James trusts Michael with his old stories and injuries on set.
And it's very good that Michael was awake during James little speech, because I don't think he'd have said it again, but since Michael heard it he could finally tell James that he loves him to. And also yay for future sexytimes and all the love! <3
And now I better go off to bed, because my brain isn't very willing to come up with proper sentences anymore :/

We needed more overprotective James, right? Doesn't happen enough in fic! (Which I say as one of the overprotective!Michael enablers, so...) And I think this Also it's nice that James trusts Michael with his old stories and injuries on set. ...is exactly right: they're both realizing that they can trust each other, can lean on each other, and that the other person genuinely wants to be there. True love, they have it. <3
James probably wouldn't've ever said it again, no! He's only saying it then because he thinks that Michael can't hear, and he's been a little shaken too, and he just has to say the words, to hear them, out loud...But he never would've made the first move, because he wouldn't've wanted to pressure Michael that way. Silly boys. Good thing Michael's kind of benevolently sneaky. :-)
Have excellent dreams, my dear! :-)

We do indeed, though I prefer mostly also overprotective Michael, but it's nice to have a change, and see that James can also be very overprotective. They definitely need to trust each other, otherwise they could never have a good relationship. And if James is willing to tell Michael even the not so nice stuff he really trusts him! And I love it how much they are in love! <3
It was very good indeed, otherwise they would have never found the courage to be together! And it turned all out very well, because James confession gave Michael the courage to act on his feelings! But yes our boys are very silly, but thank god they still manage it every time :D
Thanks! Sleep is rare this weeks but I do hope it gets better!

Indeed! And I do think that they'd both be protective of each other--James is so wholeheartedly devoted to the people he loves, after all, sometimes to the point of selflessness--which is why he needs Michael to take care of him! And they do trust each other--I like to think that this is just the beginning, and they'll go home and cuddle and and start sharing all those stories, the good and bad, for all the days to come. :-)
*sends you good wishes for snuggly sleep* Also, may be writing James & nightmares into upcoming fic...

I LOVE wicked!mischievous!James so, so much right now. :D
I, uh, actually got up in the middle of this and made myself a pumpkin latte. I blame James and you over there. It was a lovely way to finish the reading though.
...And now back to the crazy amounts of paper and scholarship essay writing, and reading responses, and project coordination, and all kinds of insane end-of-term funtimes. >.<
Wonderful study break though!<3

Ah, good luck with all the crazy! I know how that feels. I swear, every academic deadline in the world happens during the holidays... *sigh*
However! The end of yours should be up tonight or tomorrow morning. It was done yesterday, but then there needed to be an epilogue. So now there is, though I have yet to read it over for coherence. They did not quite get back to having the explicit sex, but it's kind of implied that they're about to, at the end. :-)
