Summary: Follows the post-college life of a group of friends and strangers as they get to know each other over the course of a year in a Santa Monica apartment complex.
Notes: All my own world of course though the Sports Club is an actual place, the apartment complex is not because I had to improvise.
While Trish and Tyson took refuge in Jay and Chris’ apartment, Amy sought shelter elsewhere by heading to the other end of the hallway. Each floor of the recently built complex had six three-bedroom units to provide ample space for the residents. That also meant that the apartments were mostly the same in floor design but offered different views depending on the location.
And as far as Amy knew, with the exception of the apartment across from hers, the remaining residents on the floor were all female.
For example, Dawn Psaltis, Tara Varon and Angie Williams had signed the lease for apartment 3D while Lilian Garcia, Molly Greenwald and Lisa Moretti were in the apartment across the hall, marked as 3C. Then, further down the hallway in apartment 3B, Amy and Tyson’s younger sister Christy would be rooming with Jamie Sky and Eve Torres while Melina Perez, Maryse Ouellet and Karen Smedley had the final apartment on the floor in 3A.
Sometimes Amy almost thought she was living in a college dorm… and in a way she was. She had, after all, attended college with Trish, Dawn, Tara, Lilian, Jamie and Eve and she was currently working part-time with Lilian, Jamie and Trish as a lifeguard for the City of Santa Monica. Her full time job was at The Sports Club in Los Angeles where she was a personal trainer and nutritionist. And it just so happened that her brother Tyson, best friend Trish, Lilian, Eve, Melina and Maryse also worked at The Sports Club.
Come to think of it, most of them worked there or in the near vicinity.
But her destination was not one of the apartments, rather it was the rooftop of the complex; Amy in need of some space.
“Hey… don’t shut that door,” a voice called, just as the redhead was exiting the stairwell.
“Okay,” she replied, slipping off one of her shoes to serve as a makeshift doorstop. “Were you stuck up here or something?”
“Or something,” he watched as she stepped further out onto the rooftop. “And hi, by the way, it's been awhile.”
She smiled, “Not really? We saw a lot of each other over the summer, plus helping A.J move in...”
Alex half grinned, “Yeah well, college? Didn't see much of ya.”
She nodded slowly, “Despite being at the same college, I doubt that we'll have that problem now. Running into each other, that is.”
“I’m also one of A.J’s roommates,” Alex mentioned and then turned his attention back to the view of the ocean. “We’re on the second floor, apartment 2D.”
Silence fell over the two, each occupied with separate thoughts.
“Do you want to come hang out?”
“Now?”
Alex shrugged, “why not? Unless you have to be somewhere early in the morning, I don’t see why it’s a big deal.” And at her skeptical look, he clarified, “we need a fourth player for our game. Please? I’ll buy you coffee in the morning.”
He actually had the nerve to pout at her, but she found herself saying yes anyway, the pair heading back inside and downstairs to Apartment 2D. But while Alex had recruited Amy, his roommates had taken it upon themselves to do the same. Luckily everyone was already acquainted to some extent, either through work or mutual friends.
A.J thumbed to the tattooed man sprawled out on the couch, “I saw Punk at the store and he’s just as bored as we are…”
Josh nodded to the tall brunette next to him, “same with Randy.”
“And I found her on the roof,” Alex explained.
“I found you,” Amy corrected, the woman sitting on the couch, “and what are we playing?”
Punk shook his head, “no way am I playing now.”
Amy arched an eyebrow, “afraid to play with a girl?”
He scoffed, “far from it… I just know how you play.”
A.J smirked, “you mean you don’t want to lose to her… again.”
Amy rolled her eyes, taking the controller from Punk’s hands, “we’ll just set up tournament play then since someone’s too much of a sore loser.”
A.J also took a seat on the couch, Randy managing to squeeze his way on as well while Alex took the coveted papasan chair leaving Chris to drag a chair from the dining room table.
