35 A part of her couldn't believe that they were here, and yet, here they were. Here being the fairgrounds of a local fair, they being the usual group of transplanted blond Canadians (Edge, Chris and Christian), native Canadian (Trish), native Californian (The Rock) and odd balls (Lita, Victoria, Lilian and Jeff).
It had all started with the remark of 'fairs are so stupid' and 'overpriced, cheesy and a headache' and then lead to 'you must have been traumatized at one' and ended with 'we should totally go, just for the hell of it.'
Chris, Christian and Edge still stood by their original assessment of it being stupid, overpriced and a general headache. And yet, they were there with them... albeit not quite as willingly as others.. though no one else shared their level of distaste.
Jeff was already sharing a large bag of blue and pink cotton candy with Lita, the two already having polished off two funnel cakes. Probably not the wisest idea, but they didn't have anywhere to be the next day. No harm, no foul.
Rock was picking up the slack for Christian and winning a stuffed animal for Trish... the Great One having already collected stuffed animals for Victoria and Lilian.
“.... this is so totally lame,” Christian complained, the trio of blond men parked on a bench. “Why are we here again?”
“Well, you're here because Trish wanted to come here,” Edge pointed out first, “I'm here because I was an unwilling passenger in the van.... and as for that one..” The tall blond man paused as he directed his attention shortly to Chris. “Dude, why are you here?”
“Are they sticking their tongues out at each other in the middle of the line?”
Christian arched an eyebrow, “who are you talking about?”
Chris nodded to the pair in the distance, “them.. the sugar high twosome.”
Edge squinted as he also followed the older man's line of sight. “... they're comparing tongue colors, I think. All that cotton candy they ate.”
“And now they're going on the stupid ride?” Chris shook his head, “I always knew Jeff was an idiot, just didn't expect for that to always rub off on her.”
Christian and Edge turned their combined attention on Chris, the blue eyed one speaking first, “... you've known them as long as we have and their behavior still surprises you?”
Edge smirked, “and if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were jealous.”
Chris scoffed, “oh please, like I have anything to be jealous about. Jeff is as a threatening as a Chia pet.”
“Dude, you are totally jealous..” Edge elbowed the older man in the side, “why don't you just--”
“Why don't you just shut the hell up,” Chris interrupted before Edge could finish. “I'm not jealous.”
“Right, which explains why you still haven't asked her out,” Christian put in next. “All the chances you've had... what gives?”
Chris shook his head, “it's.. she... it's Lita.”
Edge sent him a look, “so you're saying that there's something wrong with her?”
“No, you assclown. She's … she's different and she..”
“Yes, she?” Edge prodded, somewhat helpfully, “go on. I know you can speak.”
Christian ran a hand through his hair, “you should just tell her how you feel. It worked for me.”
Edge snorted, “yeah.. after what, fifteen tries that ended with Trish asking you out? Smooth move there, fat kid. But Don Juan, you are not.”
“Shut up both of you, she's coming.”
Naturally, both Christian and Edge had further comments, but they decided to be merciful. For once. Besides, the two blond men figured, it was just as amusing watching their friend get tongue tied. Their amusement kicking into higher gear when Chris agreed to the combined pleading of Lita and Jeff to join them... though, they really knew why their fellow blond Canadian was going.
Maybe the timing was finally right.
