The following day, Amy was in the midst of taking an afternoon nap when the bed started shaking hard enough to toss her to the floor. She’d lived in California her entire life anyway but she didn’t need to be told twice to realize that an earthquake was hitting.
Cursing her luck and the fact that she’d just landed on her bad ankle, Amy hauled herself to a mostly standing position, taking a moment to gain her balance and grab her phone from the nightstand before she moved to a safer position beneath her desk.
She proceeded to duck and cover as she had always been instructed throughout elementary, middle and high school.
When the shaking had subsided, and the remaining power went out, Amy ventured out from beneath the desk even though she was aware of the possibility of a quickly following aftershock. The redhead didn’t exactly want to stay in the apartment but she also knew that it was probably for the best. Still, she waited as long as she could, a good fifteen minutes passing before she left her bedroom.
Needless to say, Amy wasn’t entirely surprised when there was a knock at the door; the redhead trying to figure out who else could have possibly been home at the time.
Amy was more than a little surprised to find A.J standing in front of her, the redhead having presumed that he would have been at work.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine,” Amy replied, “a little tired because I didn’t finish my nap, but I’m fine.”
A.J nodded, “Christy wanted to make sure and I was just finishing my shift so…”
A look of understanding filled Amy’s eyes, “Got it. Is anyone else home yet?”
“I don’t think so… I was supposed to head back to the Sports Club to pick up Christy and Josh though.”
“Well I’m good here,” Amy said, smiling a little, her attention on A.J though she was also sending a text. “And going to call my brother, see what he wants for dinner tonight.”
The corners of A.J’s mouth quirked, “you aren’t going to check on Alex, too?”
Amy rolled her eyes, simply holding up her phone to reveal that she had just sent a text to Alex, A.J heading back to the Sports Club shortly after so he could get Christy and Josh.
