Before their third game of pool, Amy having to take a substantial break between each game because of her ankle; the redhead is more than a little surprised to learn that she was actually supposed to go on a blind date that night.
“You’re serious?”
“As I can be.”
Amy shook her head, “so Jamie was actually going to set me up on a blind date despite her knowing that I hate blind dates?”
Alex peeled the label from the bottle of beer on the table, “I’m kinda surprised you did show up.” After peering into the half empty bottle, he glanced up at her, “why did you?”
“I honestly don’t know…. Thought that maybe this time would be different.”
“How many blind dates have you been on?”
“Not many. Trish talked me into two and Jamie’s managed to get me on three, including this one.” She arched an eyebrow, “I know you’ve had your fair share since that’s all I seemed to hear about in college from A.J.”
“Blind date, one night stand… same difference,” he responded nonchalantly, setting the label on the table top. “You know how it is.”
Amy shrugged, taking a sip of her iced water, lips pressing together momentarily. “Did you agree to do this because you wanted to or because you didn’t want someone else here?”
Alex reached for her nearest hand, thumb brushing lightly over the back, “a little bit of both. And I know you don’t have faith in the whole relationship thing but we worked.”
“In high school.”
“You make it sound like that was decades ago.”
“I’m just saying that things change, that’s all.”
“So you don’t want to give this a shot?”
“I never said that,” Amy said first, holding his open gaze, losing herself for a moment before shaking her head. “Just didn’t think that there would be a second chance.” The ghost of a smile formed, the redhead leaning forward, pressing a kiss to his jaw. “Come on, let’s finish that third game.”
