One of the very few positive memories that Amy has regarding her father was when Christy was two, Amy at the age of four and Tyson at the age of six. Christy had come down with a very bad cold and in an attempt to keep the older children from getting sick; their father had taken Amy and Tyson to Disneyland for the day.

Her father had bought Mickey Mouse hats for her and her brother and then they’d gone on the teacups, It’s A Small World and Dumbo. Amy had also gotten her picture taken with numerous costumed characters; her father having also purchased an autograph book.

Amy still had that autograph book, tucked on her bookshelf with her yearbooks and a scrapbook that she had made for a senior year project at Malibu High School. She hadn’t thought much about that autograph book or the pictures from that day, sitting in a shoebox in the attic of her mother’s home.

And then it strikes her, as she parks her car in the parking lot, glancing back to the four year old girl and six year old boy.

The last time she was here was with her father and her older brother.

A light touch on her elbow brings her out of her memories and back to the present, Amy offering Alex a tentative smile and then assuring him that she’s fine. He doesn’t quite believe her, the look in his eyes saying as much though Alex doesn’t verbally express his skepticism.

He knows her well enough to know that she’d just deny it anyway.

His aunt’s given him cash to pay for their daytrip, Alex having handed her some money already to pay for gas and parking; the pair getting a further discount due to their being residents of California.

First things first, Alex insists on taking pictures near the entrance, directing his two cousins to a spot and snapping a quick shot. While they’re doing that, Amy gets an autograph book for both of the children and a Mickey Mouse hat for her brother. The redhead also picks up a park map so they can figure out where they’re going and what to do because she knows that the place has changed since she was last here.

“I don’t get a hat too?”

“You really want one?” And when he simply arched an eyebrow, Amy patted his cheek. “So long as you can behave, I’ll get you a hat too.”

She’s fairly certain that he’s going to argue that he’s always well behaved, but since his two cousins seem eager to start exploring Disneyland; Amy is saved from the usual spiel of bullshit as she and Alex start towards Fantasyland with the two children between them.

The day passes by in a blur, a happy blur save for one incident where one of his cousins managed to drip ice cream into Alex’s hair while receiving a shoulder ride. But they have fun. A day filled with new memories to go alongside Amy’s previous memories.
