Summary: Time is a funny thing for Jefferson, especially when it comes to his family.
Jefferson was terrible at keeping up with time. Most of the inhabitants of Wonderland were- the worst of the lot was the White Rabbit, who was always late- and screeching about it. ”I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date”. But seriously, not every date could be utterly important- and the White Rabbit had a very attractive pocket watch. Did he not have an idea of how to use it?
In Wonderland, he spent too much time all together at a tea party- feeling stuck as it always seemed to be tea time when he was there, surrounded by the March Hare and the Dormouse. And then she’d came, and she woke him up from the spell, and changed everything.
Alice had been young then, a dear girl. She’d inspired them to leave their mad tea party and be part of the world again. It was through her that he discovered the power in his hat; as he was able to send her back home. From time to time, he’d visit Alice in her world. Time was not static for Alice, and she grew from a curious young girl into an attractive woman. For some reason beyond anything Jefferson could see, Alice fell in love with him, and together they escaped from her maddening world of London, from his upside down Wonderland, and built a life together in the Enchanted Forest.
Together, they were magic. From their magic came Grace, as beautiful as her mother, with her father’s color of hair. For a time, all too short of a time, they were happy.
Magic came to Alice naturally; and soon she was able to create portals for herself. Her control wasn’t the best; and one day, she was swept away in one, leaving Jefferson alone with their daughter.
Soon, he’d disappeared from Grace, too. Regina and her double dealing, Regina and her curse.
For twenty eight years, he watched Grace. Watched her be someone else’s daughter, someone else incredibly. He was cursed to remember, to know what had been. What a bitch magic could be. Grace, thankfully, was spared from the truth. He was stuck in the aspic of the world, watching time go by but change nothing.
Just as Alice had spurred him to life at the tea party, another blonde woman came and brought Storybrooke back to life- Emma Swan, the now grown daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming; the Savior of the misplaced residents of the Enchanted Forest. She reminded him of Alice, and it made him ache. Ache for what had been. What wasn’t.
Emma had brought back time to Storybrooke. She broke the curse that Regina had levied against the town. But Emma did not break the spell of sadness that had crept over his heart. That curse was broken, wonderfully when Grace remembered him, and who he was.
Grace was every inch her mother’s daughter.

Time went by all too quickly for Jefferson.
Having his daughter back was wonderful. The breaking of Regina’s curse caused everyone to remember their true identities- and though Grace’s adoptive parents- Jack Spratt and his wife- hated to see her go and kept in touch with her always, felt that she should be with her father. And over the years together, Grace and Jefferson had a wonderful life together.
Magic came naturally to Grace, just as it had to Alice. On her twelfth birthday, a hurricane hit Storybrooke, and that storm magically swept them away to a different world. Grace, Jefferson, Grace’s friend Henry, his mother Emma, who had all been at the party- went on an adventure through a magic land, to meet a powerful Wizard. On the way they fought witches and met all sorts of fantastical creatures- something that was almost too familiar to the citizens of Storybrooke. Adventures had a knack for being incredible.
The Wizard was Alice. Joining their magic together, they were able to return home. They had a wonderful life together, and watched their daughter grow.
Grace grew from a curious girl to a beautiful young woman. And now, she was all grown. Today, she was getting married. Today, Grace would walk down the aisle and marry a Prince. Or the grandson of a Prince. It was only a little comfort that Henry Mills would certainly treat Grace like a princess. The childhood friends turned High School sweethearts were totally in love- to the point where it was almost sickening to watch them together.
“You look beautiful.” Jefferson said, seeing Grace in her wedding gown. Tears ran down his face, and he didn’t even care. “But if you want to back out, it’s okay.”
“Dad.” Grace groaned with a smile. “I love Henry. Being his wife is all I want right now.”
“You really want to be part of that family? His adoptive mother is his great-grandmother, who also happens to be the Evil Queen, and an all around miserable person. His grandmother hangs around with Dwarves, and nobody even knows what Charming’s real name is. His birth mother is a bit of a pistol, and his step father was at one time, made of enchanted wood. You really want to get yourself messed up with that?”
“I’m the daughter of a Mad Hatter and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Grace grinned. “I can handle anything. A crazy family doesn’t scare me. And besides,” she winked as she kissed her father on the cheek, “This is Storybrooke. We’re all a little mad here.”
