“I’m just happy that things are back to normal.” Lana said with a small sigh, snuggling up to Lex. The last few weeks had been lost to the theatre of the absurd- from Lex getting abducted by the aliens that came down in the meteor shower, to Lex being possessed by some ancient evil- days later, she still couldn’t process it all. She was just happy it was all over. She’d be able to block it out of her mind and deny it, just as she’d done with that nasty business of being possessed by her ancestor and killing Mrs. Teague. If she didn’t remember it, it wouldn’t have happened at all. This coping mechanism hadn’t failed her yet.
“Mhmmm.” Lex answered with a non-committal sigh. He’d been feeling a little under the weather lately, but he’d written it off to the effects of the vaccine that Fine had injected him with. He was tired, so tired. He couldn’t remember feeling quite so tired before in his life- not even after being poisoned. Lex reclined on the comfortable couch, pulling his girlfriend close. “Let’s just appreciate the quiet.”
Seconds later, the phone rang.
“Should I get it?” Lana wondered.
“Oh, just let it ring.” Lex growled.
The phone rang three more times and then went silent.
“See?” Lex sighed with relief. “It’s nothing important.” Just as the words left his mouth, the phone began once more.
“I’m getting it.” Lana hopped up off the couch and picked up the phone. “Hello? Oh. Okay.” She held her hand over the receiver. “It’s your doctor.”
“Just take a message. I don’t want to deal with him.”
Lana nodded and took her hand off of the receiver. “This is his girlfriend. Whatever you want to tell him, you can just tell me.” She was silent as she listened. “We’ll be right there.”
“What did you tell him that for?” Lex frowned. “I don’t want to go anywhere.”
“Lex, he said it was an emergency!” Lana exclaimed. “And I’m not going to put your health in jeopardy! You’re too important to me! I couldn’t stand it if anything happened to you!” She pouted.
Lex groaned as he got up off the couch. “Okay, but we’re stopping for ice cream on the way back.”

Doctor Dean Shepherd fiddled with his clipboard nervously. He hadn’t had the best grades in undergrad, and he’d only gotten into med school through his family’s numerous connections- his grandfather, father, and both uncles were all doctors at leading hospitals across the US. This assignment with Luthor Corp was his first actual job after completing his residency, and he didn’t want to blow it. The test results in bright red lettering on the clipboard made blowing this assignment and his medical career, extremely, extremely likely.
He took a deep breath as the office doors swung open to reveal Lex Luthor, a petite brunette beauty at his side.
“Mr. Luthor?” Dean said, extending a shaking hand. “I’m Doctor Shepherd.”
“This is Lana Lang.” Lex introduced the lady at his side. “Now do you mind telling me what in the hell was so damn important that you’re wasting my incredibly valuable time.”
“Ms. Lang.” He swallowed nervously. “Nice to meet you. I assume that the two are you are involved?”
“Yes.” She answered cautiously.
“Romantically? Sexually?”
“I don’t see what business that is of yours!” She huffed.
“Get to the point, Doctor Shepherd.” Lex warned.
“Mr. Luthor, if I may, are you in a monogamous relationship with Ms. Lang?”
“Doctor Shepherd!”
“Please…Please answer the question.”
“Yes. Of course I am.” Lex reached out and put a hand on Lana’s shoulder. “I love her.”
“I love you too.” Lana said, reaching up and putting her hand on top of Lex’s.
“If you value your job, Doctor Shepherd, I expect an explanation of why you insisted we come down here and have subjected us to an interrogation just this side of the Spanish Inquisition.”
Dean cleared this throat. “Ah, well, you remember that we did a battery of tests on you, Mr. Luthor, following your ordeal these last few weeks. And…”
“And?”
“And….there were some rather, uh, abnormal, results.”
“Abnormal?” Lex grabbed the clipboard from the doctor. His eyes grew wide as he read the results.
“I’m PREGNANT?!?”

Chloe looked up from her computer, pausing her current game of Bejeweled 2. “Hey Lana.” She called. “What’s up?”
Lana, in a daze, did not answer. She attempted to drop her white leather purse on the bed, but it missed the surface entirely, and spilled open on the floor instead. Chloe got up from her chair and helped pick up the items.
“Hey, you okay?” Chloe said, handing her friend the purse. “You don’t look so good.”
Lana turned to her friend. “What would you do if you found out you were pregnant?”
Chloe blushed. Until very recently, such a thing wouldn’t have been a possibility- it had been quite a long, dry spell in the love department for her. And if she got pregnant now, with Clark’s baby, hell, she’d have a whole other long list of problems that most expectant mothers wouldn’t even dream of. “I….uh, I don’t know. I’ve never really considered it.”
“Exactly. What if it wasn’t planned? I wasn’t planning this, not now.”
“You do have options, Lana. Have you been to a doctor? Those store bought tests aren’t always accurate.”
“I mean, I love him, I do.” Lana sighed, raking her fingers through her long hair. “And I know he loves me. I just always thought things would be more normal, you know, we’d get married first, I’d graduate from college and then we’d start a family….just not like this.”
“How does Lex feel about it?” Chloe asked softly.
“He’s pretty freaked out. This…this changes everything.”
“You’ve got time, Lana. You need to go and talk this over with Lex. But I know that if you want to, then you two can get through this together.”
Lana turned her head and looked at Chloe. “You think?”
“Lana, you’re hardly the first girl to get pregnant.” Chloe said softly. “Go talk to Lex. You can work this out. You love him, right?”
“I do.” Lana nodded. Her eyes shone, despite her confusion. “I’m gonna be a mother. Can you imagine that? They did a sonogram right there at the doctor’s office, because Lex didn’t believe it.”
Chloe nodded. “Well, you’re not even showing yet.”
“Oh.” Lana, said, a frown forming on her face. “That’s because I’m not pregnant. Lex is.” She said, grabbing her purse and walking out the door.

“That was fast.” Chloe said, turning from the computer as her boyfriend sped into the room.
“Well,” Clark said with a huge grin. “I’ve learned from experience that when my girlfriend says to hurry, that I better hurry.” He walked over to Chloe, and scooped her out of the computer chair, pulling her close and keeping her deeply.
“Clark, as much as I’d like it to be, this isn’t a booty call.” Chloe muttered, shimmying out of her boyfriend’s tight grip. “This is business.”
Clark frowned. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
“Remember when we played the Sims2?”
“I remember what happened afterwards.” He said with a wink.
“Down, boy.” Chloe grinned. “Remember what happened when your Warrior Angel sim got abducted by aliens?”
“Wanda Wayne practically cried herself to death?”
“Yeah, and…”
“And…”
“When they brought him back…he was…”
“Pregnant.”
“Bingo.” Chloe said. “Now, simply imagine that could happen in the real world.”
Clark’s eyes grew wide. “What exactly are you trying to tell me, Chloe? You’re not…”
“The United States can still consider me pre-pregnant, all right?” Chloe shrugged. “We’re not going to be in the family way any time soon, Clark. But think, who do we know that’s been abducted by aliens recently?”
Clark thought, and then a look of shock and horror grew on his face. “You….you’re not saying….that’s not even possible.”
“Says the boy who can leap tall buildings in a single bound and break the speed barrier.”
“You…you don’t think this was part of Zod’s plan?”
“While it does bring a whole new, and rather disturbing meaning to the word vessel, I don’t think so.” Chloe sat down at the computer and pulled up a file. “I hacked into the database and pulled up the records. Lex is…well, pregnant…with what seems to be a normal human pregnancy.”
“Except for the fact that he’s a guy.”
“Well, yeah.” Chloe shrugged. “There’s that.”
“What do I do?”
“I don’t think there’s anything you really can do, Clark. It doesn’t seem to be an evil plot…it’s just, you know, a whole new level of meteor rock wacky.”
“So…” Clark sat down on Chloe’s bed. “I…I don’t know what to say.”
“I thought you should hear about your ex-best friend having your ex-girlfriend’s baby from a friendly face.” Chloe said, sitting down in Clark’s lap.
“I’m glad you told me.” Clark said, rubbing tiny circles on Chloe’s back. “I don’t know of a friendlier face in the universe.”
“Flattery gets you everywhere, Kent.” Chloe beamed. “But this situation does raise interesting questions.”
“Like how do Kryptonians reproduce?” He said, kissing her neck. “Maybe men have the babies. I honestly don’t know. But I’m willing to experiment and find out.”
“Clark Kent!” Chloe said, giggling. “One of the major biological facts in the world is being proven wrong, our friends are in one hell of a pickle, and all you can think about is your own libido?” She shook her head. “You are seriously weird.”
“And you love me anyway.” He said, framing her face in her hands and kissing her. “The last thing I want to think about right now is Lana and Lex. They ruin the mood.”
“We’ll have to get a gift for a baby shower. I’ll have to throw a baby shower. I mean should I? Lana’s my friend, but Lex would probably hate it, but he is the one having the baby, and I can’t even believe that I’m talking about this?”
“Chloe?”
“Yeah?”
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” Clark growled, kissing her once more.

Six Months Later--
“He’s so tiny.” Lana cooed, holding her newborn son. “Hi. Hi, little boy. You’re so handsome, yes.” She turned to Lex, propped up by several pillows in the hospital bed. “You did a great job.”
“Luthors always do a great job with anything we do.” Lex grinned weakly, still feeling a little loopy from the drugs that had put him under for the surgery. “Remember that, my wife.”
“I will.” Lana said, sitting down on the bed beside Lex. “You wanna hold him?”
Lex nodded, and Lana put the newborn in his arms.
“He didn’t feel this little before he was born.” Lex said with a smile. “He felt like Godzilla baby.”
“He’s perfect, Lex.” Lana beamed. “What should we name him?”
“Are you serious?” Lex said, taking the tiny baby hand in his own. “After all that I went through for this baby, he’s going to be named for me. Alexander Junior.”
“I don’t even get a say in this?” Lana said with a tiny grin.
“Honey, if you carry the next baby for nine months, you can name it anything you want.”
“I guess that’s fair.” Lana said, snuggling up to her family. “I can deal with that.”
“After this, we can deal with anything.” Lex said softly, kissing Alexander on the red curls that covered his tiny head.

Five Years Later
Lex smiled down at his sleeping wife. They would be parents again, soon. This time, the pregnancy had been textbook perfect…this time it was Lana’s stomach that was gently rounded and full of squirming unborn baby.
Thank goodness.
He wouldn’t trade anything in the universe for his son. Alex was smart, and already a star on his T-Ball team.
Life was good.
Half awake, he shuffled to the bathroom. He was going to get dressed and make breakfast before Lana woke up. After using the toilet quickly, he washed his hands, and then splashed a little cool water on his face to help him wake up.
He looked up in the mirror and saw the face of his long dead mother, Lillian. Seeing her face caused Lex to remember his delusions from when he was shot and almost died, back in 2005. “You were wrong.” He calmly told the vision. “I have a wonderful life. I have a position of power and a wonderful family that loves me. I’m on top of the world! So what was this about this horrible life I was going to lead, mother?”
“I said that you would face great pain in your life, Lex.” Lillian’s spirit said softly. “And I think you’ll agree that it is hard to find a much greater physical pain in life that childbirth.” Lillian’s reflection shimmered and faded away.
