“Here we go.” Clark said, as he carefully guided Chloe through her dorm room door. “Let’s just get you settled…” He lifted her up off her feet, picking her up and safely depositing her into her bed. “ See, all safe and sound.”

Chloe grinned. “Thanks for the help Clark. You know, experts do say that most accidents in college happen while walking from the door of your room to the bed.”

“Chlo, you gave me a scare back there.” Clark said weakly.

“I scared myself. If I was planning on becoming vamp chow, I would have just gone to UC Sunnydale.”

“Chloe, you almost died.” Clark sat down on the bed beside her.

“I know that! And as scary as my near death experience was, I’m trying not to dwell on it and let it rule over my life.”

“If that’s some kind of indirect dig…” Clark frowned.

“If you got it, than it obviously wasn’t too indirect.” Chloe chirped. “Look, I know this has to be like the weirdest conversation in the history of creation. Speaking as someone who was dead to world for an entire summer, coming back to life isn’t simple. And you were, you know, dead dead, where I was only mostly dead…” Chloe babbled.

“I thought Jor-El was going to take you.” Clark said, reaching out and touching her cheek lightly. “I can’t believe he’s doing this. I didn’t ask to be brought back to life; he was the one who resurrected me! If he cares about me, if he really is my father, he wouldn’t ask this of me! I can’t just sit back and watch someone I love die!”

“Clark.” Chloe said gently. “ There’s a lot of things I don’t understand in this world, and apparently, that stretches to the whole universe as well. I wish I knew what to tell you, I wish I had an advance copy of “Dealing with Kryptonian Overlords for Dummies”. But I can be here. I’m here, and alive, and okay, and I’m not planning on going anywhere. And step by step, we’ll get through this, okay?”

He nodded. “That actually helped.”

“Just call me your personal Dear Abby.”

“Cute.” He laughed.

Chloe giggled, a light and cheery sound. “Did you really think I was going to die at the hands of Lana Lang?”

“Technically” Clark replied. “It was by her teeth.”

Chloe nodded. “Another sad case who died upon the fangs of Lana Lang.”

“Did I hear my name?” Lana said, striding in through the door.

“Lana!” Clark said awkwardly. “What are you doing here?”

“Didn’t Chloe tell you?” Lana smiled. “I’m living here now. I’m her new roommate.”

“What happened to the old one?”

“She wanted a college experience that didn’t closely resemble a season of The X-files.” Chloe grinned.

“So you’re roommates? Again?”

The girls both nodded.

“She’s the Ethel to my Lucy…” Chloe kidded…

“While she’s the Shirley to my Laverne…” Lana countered.

“The Betty to my Wilma…”

“The Tonto to my Lone Ranger…”

“The Charlie Brown to my Snoopy…”

“The Betty to my Veronica…”

“The Hobbes to my Calvin…”

Clark threw his hands up in the air. “Enough. If I hear any more pop culture references, I might explode.” A slow grin grew over his face. “Although, if you did needed a third roommate, I could move in and then…”

Chloe beamed. “I don’t think our RA would be pleased to play Mr. Roper. So let’s just hold the whole “Three’s Company” situation off for awhile, okay?” She turned to Lana. “Did you get what I asked for?”

“Only because I promised.” Lana grimaced. “What in the hell were you thinking, Chloe?”

“What are you talking about?” Clark blurted out, utterly confused.

“Lana picked up some special entertainment for us tonight. It’s her way, of you know, making up for using me as her own personal blood bank.” Chloe smiled. “And we’re ordering pizza. Lana’s treat. You’re welcome to stay if you want.”

Clark shrugged. “Okay, cool.” He paused slightly. “What are we watching? Should I be afraid?”

Lana opened the plastic bag and withdrew the DVDs Chloe had requested, and showed them to Clark.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer?” He looked at Chloe quizzically. “The complete second season?”

“David Boreanaz.” Chloe sighed dreamily. “Now there’s someone you dream of having sink their fangs into you.”

“I can’t disagree with that.” Lana sighed, plopping down on the other side of the bed beside Chloe.

“I can’t know this.” Clark said in a strangled voice. He turned to Chloe. “Did it feel this awkward for you to hang around with me and Pete?”

“Even more so.” Chloe grinned. “Payback’s a bitch, isn’t it?”
