In Which Abuse is Never Pretty

At work, they're running a GET INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY THING! You know, the typical "make all of our employees donate their time so that our big company looks less like corporate douches" kinda thing. They're trying to get ALL of their employees involved, but delightfully, I'm not counting myself in that number! Because fuck you guys, I'M ( Read more... )

The newspaper did that too. Best part? Our Administrative Assistant was telling us stories at one of the RAH-RAH-DONATE! campaigns about employees who had no food or no clothes and how the people we were working to raise money for helped them out, in front of a group of our fellow co-workers who had just been told that week that they were losing their jobs.

Needless to say, the rest of us showed with our pledge forms what we thought of THAT show. Especially since said problems could have been solved if they had just paid us a wage that someone could actually live on.

Ouch. >.<; That's special right there.

I don't mind most of their charity activities. Some of them are kind of fun, like first quality sale where all the profits go to charity. Or mystery eggs at easter. XD But like hell if they're getting any more of my time, damnit. 8|

I didn't some of the activities, especially the bake sales and stuff, 'cause they had some good stuff at those. I hated being forced fed a spiel and then being made to feel guilty because I had bills and rent to pay that took most of what I brought home every month.

Of course, people were shocked that I had to pay RENT, since I live with my parents, but I was like "uh... I eat their food and use their water and electric... why WOULDN'T I be paying them rent?"

Yeah, I don't really worry about being super involved, but I do toss some money in every now and then for fun and benefit and stuff. I just don't want to go volunteer with a bunch of people I don't know for a company I don't really care about. Because I'm a selfish wench like that.

Living with parents =/= Free ride, yeah. It can, but it doesn't HAVE to mean that, depending on the parents. I can see how that'd be annoying, people assuming. XD;

I used to be bad about exclamation points, as well as the dreaded question mark exclamation point combo. Which I'm about ninety percent certain is incorrect. So now I try to be as careful as I can about abusing punctuation. :D

I'm all for a campaign to stop abuse of the English language. The poor thing is already so abused by countless people on the internet.
