Oooh. I really, really liked this. It's not an interpretation of Ziva's actions that had occurred to me, but it makes a scary amount of sense the way you write it here.
It makes me wonder if Ziva is doing it on purpose, if she even realizes how she's undermining the team in her effort to make her own position more secure. And the bits about her effect on Tony made me shiver, because she might be manipulating all of them, but the way she's manipulating him here is doing real emotional damage to him in a way it isn't to the rest of them.

Since I like Ziva, the idea had not really taken hold of me either. Occasionally it tickled my brain a little, but in the end I dismissed it. It was really Gibbs's behavior in "Jeopardy" that insisted that I find some explanation.

I think Ziva has lived so long in a world where she can't trust anyone, and everybody is manipulating everybody that it is quite possible that she has no idea what she is doing. Or, at least, she isn't doing it on purpose.

Yes! Love the end with Gibbs saying it ended now. I like this look at Ziva and how she's been playing everyone so far. I can't believe I missed that crap with her and McGee and how she was all "No one doubted you." Maybe my bullshit meter was broke.
Thanks. Gibbs is such a man of action that he wouldn't think about all this and then just leave it there.

I actually yelled "Liar" at the tv. This is why no one will watch tv with me; I get way too involved. It stuck with me, because she didn't doubt Tony, but didn't even give McGee a chance.
I'll thank you again here. Feedback feeds the muses and they can be surprisingly fragile.
The sequel is definitely demanding to be written. It's turning it into something more than "And Gibbs did something," that is hard. I'd also like to try my hand at something a little longer than the single-scene stories I've written so far, but then that makes me feel a little pressured. The things I do to myself. *rolls eyes*
