Condo Hunting

I didn't want to be the first to break the news, but I suspect that Ema is too busy packing everything up to make an entry herself. She'll be returning to Los Angeles, permanently, in early March. That is, she'll be back in a little more than a week ( Read more... )

Ooh! Ema's coming back! That sounds like around the time I'll be in the city, too! I hope we can hang out while I'm down there. Could ya relay the message on for me, please!

I've lived in the same old studio apartment since my days as a deadbeat cop, so I can't say I know much about real estate. My only advice would be to make sure you check all the carpets and walls for any suspicious stains. Ya never want to live in a place where someone died, y'know? When I moved into my place, I made double extra sure that it wasn't haunted.

To be honest, that concern hadn't crossed my mind. Though now that you mention it, I'm going to run a search. Thank you, Mr. Gumshoe.

Considering the state of the economy, it really would be best to take in how close the home is to wherever she plans on working, as well as if it's cheaper. So long as the neighborhood isn't too rundown and she's careful with her comings and goings, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And as an aside, I think it's safe to say she won't be moving into the same building as I, ja?

The first two options really are the closest, with the first winning out by a few minutes. Ema usually opts to take public transit though, so unless she decides to purchase a car when she returns, the cost of fuel won't be a concern.

...And I suppose it's unlikely she'd choose to do so, but it really is a very lovely location.

Lana! I am not going to move into the same condo as Mr. Gavin! B-besides, if it costs a lot...

... aren't there any other places available? Besides the three you mentioned? I don't know how I feel about any of them, really.

I would like to have a place to store my equipment, so it sounds like the second one is out, and it would be better if I were closer to the department. But, the first condo is just not an option. Besides, you're right about me not spending much time in the kitchen, you know how I am about cooking.

It's a pricier option, but the more I think of it, the more I believe it may be the best choice, especially given the opportunity the recession provides. Think of this endeavour as an investment--a home is the most important investment one can make in their lives.

...You shouldn't rule it out just given one particular neighbor you may end up with in the process. After all, it's not as though he will be your housemate or anything like that. I doubt people living in the building come into contact all that often, if that's your concern.

The second place has a large closet, and also a generous sized sunroom that can be converted into a study/laboratory space if you so desire, so storage itself shouldn't be a problem so long as you don't mind not having everything in a different space.

I've looked at several other locations, but they all have rather troubling issues, especially in regards to security and severe maintenance issues. There aren't too many other choices, unfortunately.

But, he'd go out of his way just to bump into me! There'd be no avoiding him!

I'd really prefer to have all my lab equipment together, if possible, but that would mean picking the first one or the third, which is rather out of the way, right? Ack... this real estate shopping is more difficult than I thought! I guess I'll have to see both of them before I make my decision.

... Lana, I'm sorry if I sound ungrateful. I really do appreciate you going out of your way like this for me.

Oh...!

That's rather a coincidence, isn't it?

Would you recommend the area?

Well, I like it. It's quiet, it's liveable. Well, that wasn't always the case, man. The first week or so, there were some problems but those ain't a factor anymore.
