Short Random Thoughts on Fanfiction

1.) Is anyone else kind of perversely sad that bsg is starting on friday? I mean, I have so many story ideas and outlines that will totally be ruined by the start of the show. But I'll probably still write some of them. I like them too much not to. Most likely I'll land up changing them so they fit in with season 4.

2.) Seriously, why do I subject ( Read more... )

fanfic, bsg

Ooh, I know that feeling! With the strike and all, I got used to the fic slate being wide open. Not that I don't want new eps. I really, really want new eps! But once the season is up and running and is done, well canon will be closed.

Fortunately, I'm an AU person so I can happily make up stuff. But my ideas! How on earth with thirteen months did I run out of time? We should just write them anyway! Unlike you, I will stubbornly cling to my version of canon as it was when I thought of it. :-)

BSG writers rock! My first fandom, I have no idea what the writers are like in other fandoms. You haven't found any good BSG fic on ff.net? I'm rarely there but I sometimes hope there is good fic on that site for when I have a rainy day.

I so do too. I'm really excited for friday and nervous at the same time because I'm afraid that it won't be the bsg I've imagined in my head. With a whole year of just speculating and writing you come to see bsg as you want to see it and you have certain expectations about what will happen next. I suppose we will all know on friday.

HAHAHA, I'm going to try to stick with my original vision but I admit it's going to be hard. But if things don't go my way on the series totally expect me to retreat into my own little bsg world.

BSG writers rock! They so do. There are good stories on ff.net but there is also a lot of the not so good too. I generally stay away from all the Kara/leoben there as it tends to be either torture filled or happy families. There are tons and tons of Kara/Lee there. I haven't even really begun to ( ... )

Hey! We're both still awake! At this time, I feel the whole world must be sleeping. Which is just not true. Please, point me in the direction of any good BSG on ff.net. I haven't gone through there recently.

I was going to rec A Theory of Relativity (so well-written), but I see you've already read it. Wasn't it such a good read?

See my fear is BSG will be just like the fan fic writers and I myself have imagined. People being mean and disbelieving my girl which drives her mad and leaves her alone (except for maybe Lee or the kindly Head!Leoben, either which may help her or cause more harm, I'm not sure which).

She was just so tortured last season, I have to steel myself for more. But honestly, I'll take any new BSG I can get. But I am hopeful for some kindness to my favorite characters. Hear that BSG PTB? Kindness! I love being unspoiled. I can still hope for kindness.

Thanks for still being awake!

(Oh, I like clicking on 'send a subspace message'. I can pretend I'm on a spaceship! Whee! I am so sleep-deprived. :-))

I really have to stop staying up late. It's probably not doing me very good. lol.

Anyways, it wouldn't be BSG if people were actually happy, Kara included. This is about the darkest show on tv that I know.

Do you have a link for A Theory of Relativity. I'm totally blanking on it.

I'm actually feeling the same thing... it's like I had more fic and vid plans for the hiatus, and suddenly the hiatus is over and canon is going to get in the way! When did that happen?

seriously. I look at all my outlines and I feel like pulling my hair. I had so much time and yet apparently not enough. oh well. I'm still going to keep writing.

YES! Mostly I'm bummed that the last chapters of my current WIP won't beat the start of the season, so when I do post them I'll feel all out of sync.

I for one think it would be a travesty if you did not write at least some of your outlined fics. Even if they turn into AU you should definitely write them. And yes I know that's selfish of me. ;-)

Bad fanfic...I could moan and groan about this for ages. Look, all I really ask is that you run it through spell check and reread it at least once to catch the major/obvious mistakes. Oh, and please please please learn the difference between there, their, and they're. And were and where and we're. And by and large if you haven't had sex you probably shouldn't be writing it. And just...*sigh* basic grammar, please, I'm begging you.

It's been really hard to write lately (not that I'm really all that prolific). I write all these outlines or snippets and then I have trouble actually fleshing them out into full stories. aghhhh.

Totally agree with you on the bad fanfic. Half of what annoys me is the spelling/grammar errors. The other is the lack of complexity or depth. I don't think all fic have to be the equivalent of Ulysses or anything but I hate all the standard plot contrivances. Oh and unless the characters actually have a baby on the show, most babyfic ultimately fails. Maybe a harsh opinion but I would love to be proved wrong.

You actually write outlines out! That's a lot further than I end up getting most of the time so go you!

Oh and unless the characters actually have a baby on the show, most babyfic ultimately fails.Oh see you brought up babyfic and now...here we go. There have only been a handful of good, realistic babyfic in this fandom (in most fandoms for that matter). Look, if you want to write a story where the characters are ridiculously and disgustingly happy and sweet and...pathetic then go right ahead, just name them Dick and Jane and not Kara and Lee. What in Kara and Lee's personality would ever lead you to believe that they would become pod-people the instant a kid arrived? It drives me crazy to see these characters neutered and changed so drastically and unbelievably ( ... )

1) Yep. I mean, I'm mostly pretty good at ignoring canon anyway, but I have to do more apologizing for it when there's new stuff to ignore. :)
