i love everything about this ramble and you should not regret it.
i think what i liked best about that whole "testing euphoria" bit, besides the fact that i felt horrendously dirty for some reason, was when GLaDOS mentions how it becomes unbearable unless you can learn to block it, and then she's all "But I was just in it for the science." it's like, a subtle throwaway comment or something on male sexuality vs. female sexuality. i just lol'd for a second.
and as for Chell looking better after 300+ years of sleep...i guess it's "beauty sleep" taken literally or something. but yeah, the vamping up her appearance kind of bugged me because it was nice having a female protag who was a little scruffy looking. but oh well, it's a game about brains and puzzle-solving anyway, and it's not like you see Chell running or jumping around in the first place. even in the advertisements you don't see much of her besides that fabulous swag.
The only time I remember seeing Chell at all in any of the ads was in the Boots ad, and even then you don't get to see her do anything but flip around in the air like a ninja. I can't even remember where that .gif of her walking through the door comes from, to be honest. The co-op bots are featured so much more prominently in the promotional material. P-Body, the "girl" robot, is pretty much the "face" of the game, even moreso than Atlas.
if you're talking about the .gif you have in your post, i think that's from the end of the boots ad where Cave's all "good work boots". for some reason i'm convinced there's another ad she's running or something and there's GLaDOS and we see Chell from the back again or i'm just thinking of some official art. and lol oh those co-op bots making parents think that Portal 2 would be a lighter, more kid friendly game.....

i really like how female oriented this game is, though, prettying Chell up aside. that's actually the main reason why i love the games so much, because i am a horrible sucker for kickass girls IN CASE THAT WASN'T OBVIOUS.
It looks like it's from the end of Boots, but the end of that is just her getting up from her landing. It doesn't continue on to her waltz into the next chamber.
There might be another ad where we see Chell, but I'd have to watch them again to find out. For the main character of the game, they sure don't feature her in many of the advertisements. I wonder if it's because they're going "HEY LOOK WE'VE GOT A CO-OP MODE YOU SHOULD THROW MONEY AT US 8D" or if they're "hiding" Chell's involvement to appeal more to the dude gamer crowd. :/

I actually want to write a full length (20 page) literary analysis looking at feminist themes in Portal. GLaDOS is a mother figure to Chell in many ways, so...
