Because some people who work retail/etc have a good memory for faces. Especially if you've been there more than once. Or it could be that you have a very distinctive look / in some way stand out from the usual crowd they get.

As someone that works at gamestop, or really retail in general: it is so rare that we get a customer that doesn't annoy, anger, or frustrate us, that when we do get one we grasp tightly to the possibility that there are more like that out there. And so we remember. And we wait. And we hope.
