I had spoiled myself for it long before I actually got around to playing it, so although I didn't get quite the player punch that other people had, it was really interesting to sit back and see all the times the phrase was actually invoked.
I tried playing MEPC after ME2. The Run and the Pause keys were switched, and you needed three buttons in ME1 to do what you could do with 1 in ME2.
Some of the classes seemed to completely reverse in the sequel. In the first game, the Sentinel was the only class that couldn't train in the armor skill, and it was missing most of the more useful biotic abilities. In ME2, the sentinel as THE BEST ARMOR AVAILABLE, and was a hell of a lot more survivable.
Also, I didn't hate the Mako because it wasted time on the Uncharted worlds. I hated the Mako because it was fucking hard to control. In the final tunnel course in Ilos, it took me an hour and a half to get down the tunnel the first time because the bloody tank kept bouncing off walls and pointing in the wrong direction.

The lead up to the Andrew Ryan "battle" was very fascinating.
