Merlin exhibiting emotions should have been disquieting, but he's so sweet and loving they feel like a natural extension of his character. Camelot Enterprise's response to his new traits was worrisome and GEORGE is even more worrisome still. He may not feel emotion but he certainly harbors some big ol' robot hate for Merlin. He would cheerily disassemble his fellow robot. If I were Arthur, I'd power him down immediately. Creepy thing. The only positive thing he's done is accidentally identifying that Merlin's pet plant is alive. Well, he's cooking and cleaning, too, but Merlin could totally go back to doing a half assed job of that.
Waiting to get married may not be the clever thing to do. Merlin's not safe until he's Arthur's robot wife husband.

There is a reason as to why Merlin's showing such feelings, but I don't wish to spoil it so... I won't say much on that subject, but there is something that happened that makes him have these 'nice' emotions. It was a small thing that grew with time. :) But the hate that George seems to be having for Merlin is merely him following orders. He knew that Merlin was supposed to be dismantled when he arrived, and seeing that Merlin was not didn't compute to him. So that was his reaction to it.
Yes, Arthur waiting to marry Merlin might not be a smart thing, but he's being a sappy human who'd rather have his friends around him at the time and not stuck out in space. You're right, though, that Merlin isn't safe... technically he isn't, anyway. But with Arthur there, he is.

Thanks for your lovely reply. ♥ Yes, Arthur really has become protective of his prototype companion bot. :) And the waiting isn't a good thing, no; but Arthur is sentimental, like most humans, and he wants to do it around his friends and such... George is a more typical servant/companion bot. He doesn't have any human emotion in him, so he just does as he is told without a care. He's much too cold, as you have so nicely put it.
There is sort of a significance, yes. :) A more, uh, catalyst to his feelings you might say. And that's all I'll say about that. XD

Awwwww--I just love how MERLIN is so taken with plants and animals. I watched Blade Runner the other day, and see many of the same themes in this fic--what makes us human, etc. I'll be interested to see where you take it--and am very worried about GEORGE doing something!

Poor Merlin tries so hard to keep his emotions in check, even with the threat of being dismantled. XD Merlin is good with mechanics and metal stuff, so it's easy for him to fashion a ring and then use a nice space rock to set into it. :D
You're right..... he is a right twat. XD But more likely he is just a robot that follows orders coldly and is void of any emotions.
