School and fandom collide....

So, finished taking my Humanities/Renaissance final. I think I did okay, although I probably should have remembered some other pointers that I needed to write about, but still, at least I know I won't fail. I'm taking the next course that is after this one, and I really wish that I would have found out about these classes sooner because I don't ( Read more... )

hi - hope you dont mind me adding you

but yes, you're right, Cromwell was about during the reign of Charles I. He was the one who caused parliament to kick charles out, and was the one who signed charles' death warrent. He was also the Lord General of the parliament (later New Model) Army. He was actually a lowly farmer before he became the leader of farmer, apparently God showed him how to lead men in battle, and following the execution of Charles, he became lord protector (or 'king' for wont of a better word). When he died, his son Richard? took over, but got fed up and brought Charles II over from france.

Sorry, I'm a bit of an english civil war nut! I'm doing my degree thesis on the archaeology of the english civil war (Battle of Cheriton 1644 particularly - have actually walked the battlefield :D), so if there's anything you wanna know regarding the period then feel free to ask :)

Nope, don't mind at all. I was just going to check out your profile, but got side tracked. XD

Okay, I thought that's what I read about. Seems that whatever I can learn from you I could tell my teacher. I'm sure he'll be pleased to know about such things. :D And if this is the era that I'm learning about next semester, than YAY!! Talk about good timing! I'll learn more about Sexby's 'world' this way and I might even produce better fic. Maybe, if the show does come over here to the States, he could assign it for the class..? of course it's four hours long, right? So I don't know if he would have them watch it all or just recommend it. He recommends things a lot during class.

Thank you! I will keep it in mind when I have a question about the war. :D Maybe you could be my second beta type person for my fics. Or just a helper with details. ^_^;

oh yeah, i'd be more than happy to help out with details and stuff :)
I also re-enact the English Civil War (geek much? LOL) on the side of the royalists, so know how the weapons of the period work as well. So like i say, any questions ask awaaaay - i have a massive pile of ECW books beside me at the moment for my thesis hahahaha.

Assigning it for the class would be good, they do get things pretty accurate in it - although i did notice a few problems with their army drill :P But it does miss a lot of important things which is a shame, but i suppose thats time constraints.

Am actally writing a fic myself from that period with sexby in it - dunno if you've seen it on the devils whore comm?

Yay! Oh, today has been such a happy day. :D *bounces*

Heh, okay, if I ever have questions I will ask you. You shall be my official English Civil War Beta! Or whatever title you'd prefer. Maybe something strange yet geeky? lol.

Yeah, if he ever watches it maybe he will assign it, but it's up to him. I think it would be a great way to show everyone what a great actor John Simm is. :)

Oooo... I haven't had the time to look through the comm yet, so I will check it out! If I don't comment on it, never fear, I will. Just that I usually like to read some stories at home instead of here. I save them to disk here at the college and bring them home to read. When I get my internet at home back then it wouldn't be much of a problem. XD

Yup. Isn't that neato? XD

He does, but he says his memory of it is sketchy because that isn't his expertise field or something. I don't think he necessarily teaches British history, though. I can't recall the name of the next class he teaches, but it comes after the Reniassiance, and then after that is the Romantic period... etc.
