Manos: The Hands of Dorkitude

I don't have much to say, but I'm supposed to be posting more frequently, so here's what I've got. I've written about half of those remaining three or four FA scenes (maybe it's more like four or five). I worked out at the gym twice this week, and read while doing so ( Read more... )

Hmm, next time I see you, I'll be sure to wave at you and take a picture of the dorky result. :)

That is such a funny image. I've never noticed, but am very amused.

I do something similar: when I smile at someone that I pass in the hallways, I then continue to smile as I walk along, as though perhaps someone else would see me smile/not-smile in quick succession and think I were therefore fake. Or something. Or maybe my face just gets stuck??

Passing people in hallways is just problematic in general. Because usually you recognize each other from quite far off, and there's some sort of nod or wave, but then as you keep walking toward each other, what are you supposed to do? Keep looking and smiling? Look away? What about when you actually pass each other -- do you make a further verbal acknowledgment then? It's all very awkward.

Agreed! Plus, my vision (ever with glasses) can be just fuzzy enough at a distance that it's hard to be sure I'm seeing the person I think I'm seeing. Is that _____, or just someone who looks like _____? Should I wave, so I don't seem unfriendly if it is _____? Or should I not wave so I don't look completely ridiculous if it turns out to be someone I don't know?

Really, I find it easier simply to stay in bed. Wish that were an option more of the time.

A couple of years ago, I walked into the kitchen at work and said hello to the woman standing at the sink. She replied politely, and then I asked how her weekend was, and only then I did I realize that she was not in fact the coworker I thought she was, but somebody from another department who I didn't know. I'm not sure if she thought I was extra friendly or what, but I was really embarrassed by the situation. Forever after, I felt awkward whenever I'd run into her around the office, which happened a lot since we were on the same floor. What a relief that my department has now moved to a different building!
