This was BLOODY BRILLIANT! Incorporating the S/I angle perfectly from John’s POV…with a nice dose of angst! I’m finding it so difficult to write S/J post-201 (though the ep is not at fault, hell John practically admitted he loved him!)… fics like these very much needed… yes of course John, you are THE MAN, and don’t let any ‘Whip Hand’ convince you otherwise!

Glad you enjoyed though. Like you, I'm having difficulty seeing them together now. I think the conversation John had with Irene confirmed John's feelings for Sherlock (if not romantic, than at least that they're inseparable) but Irene's also proved...special to Sherlock.
This fic was my way of sorting out my emotions towards the three of them. What I wanted to get across was that life goes on. John will never exactly know what she meant to Sherlock, nor will Sherlock himself I suppose, but they're all just going to have to continue living despite that.

For this reason, John is taken aback when Sherlock answers with a resounding, “No.” John stares briefly, almost saddened at the detective’s denial of so basic a sign of humanity. Sherlock scoffs and clarifies, “Why would I miss her if she’s still leaving her mark all over the place?”
He offers John the paper, an article on the front page highlighted.
I especially loved this bit, it made me smile. :)
