Once relatively close to the woman, Yutaka gingerly kept his hands up in front of himself, mimicking to the woman that she shouldn't move “... I do not know your circumstances, but I do know that if you were to jump I would feel compelled to follow and rescue you, even though I also do know very well that I cannot swim … so that would … be bad” professed Yutaka slightly smiling.
The woman silently looked back at him, blinking in a rather confused manner, following which she quickly gazed at her surroundings, and her eyes went wide, as if just realizing what the brunette was alluding to. Taking a few steps away from the edge of the port, she turn towards the doctor and deeply bowed “I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding!” she almost shouted, sounding incredibly apologetic “... I had absolutely no intention of ending my life! I would never!” she then reinforced, making the brunette half sigh, and half wonder “besides ...” she then raised, serenely smiling at the brunette “... I happen to know how to swim … well I used to … not quite sure if I can right now, but perhaps in such a situation, I would like to believe that my survival instincts would instantly kick in” she concluded.
“I am glad to hear that ...” expressed the brunette slightly walking backwards, and making sign the woman to follow him “... is not that I do not trust you ma'am … is just that we are still really close to it, and I am the one who feels comfortable” he expressed, as the woman complied following the brunette, while lightly laughing.
Her laughter, her voice in general, were quite pleasing to the ear, differently from all the abhorrently loud laughing of all the ladies he had to bear for most of the day because of his own celebration. Even her clothing was rather easy to the sight, she wore a simple, but not poor-looking, long sleeveless salmon dress, with a red shall covering her shoulders, over which her long and lightly wavy chestnut colored hair freely flowed. All in all, the more he looked at her, Yutaka couldn't deny that she was particularly beautiful.
Sighing, the woman sat by the first bench she found, joined by Yutaka, whom however merely stood. Perhaps it was his psychiatric instincts, but he felt like he couldn't quite leave the woman until he was sure that she truly wasn't about to cast herself off that edge. From experience, Takeru having been specimen number one, he knew that people could be excellent liars.
“Were you … just … taking a stroll? ...” daintily inquired Yutaka, while slightly jerking, when out of the blue, Hiroto calmly joined his side, as the woman silently shook her head. The doctor found himself thinking that even her movements were overwhelmingly cute, and if he weren't already head over hills for an irreplaceable blond, he'd probably would fall for her.
“I … came to ...” she tentatively began, awkwardly glimpsing at the brunette, as if not sure if she should express herself “... I know it will sound weird but … I … just … I came to check if I could perhaps see the war-ship come back ...” she finally admitted, sadly smiling at her laps.
“I see ...” replied the brunette, with a sigh of his, wondering just how many people actually went exactly through the same routine. For the longest time he'd thought he had been the only one, but he supposed that it made sense if he weren't. That ship had taken away not only his beloved, but plenty of other fathers, lovers, brothers and friends, thus it was only normal for people to want to "come and check" for the return of their loved ones.
“Silly I know ...” lowly professed the woman, with a half-snicker.
“Not at all ...” readily replied Yutaka, while he also sat down on the bench next to the woman, joining her in newly stare at the ocean in the distance “... I was here for the same reason” admitted the brunette.
“Family? … if you do not mind me asking that is, sire ...” politely inquired the lady.
“Yes … you could say that” replied the brunette in an unsure manner, immediately after which, realizing how weird his reply might have sounded, he then promptly stated “... and my name is Yutaka Uke by the by, nice to make your acquaintance Ms. ...?” he then inquired.
“
Shiina Ringo … pleased to meet you Mr. Uke” she smiled.
“Are you also waiting for a family member ms. Ringo?” nonchalantly inquired Yutaka.
“Soon to be hopefully ...” she tenderly expressed, as she glimpsed at the brunette with a melancholic expression“... I am waiting for my lover ...” she added “... I … was regrettably not able to come and see him leave … I have been bedridden for the longest time … seemingly an interminable amount of years worth of time” she explained “we were in the same orphanage, nobody had adopted us, but in the time we spent together, we somehow manged to fall in love ...” she tenderly began to explain “... my perilous conditions made it so that nobody wished to adopt me, whereas for him, well … I suppose he already had some sort of feelings for me even back then … for he had decided that he would not leave my side, thus purposely caused trouble in order to not make himself a "candidate" for adoption ... such a silly kid he was ...” she lightly laughed still looking in the distance, making Yutaka suddenly felt the urge to find out how exactly how was Akira as a kid “... thus, once we turned sixteen, and were required to leave the orphanage, we ventured on our own together, but without the proper cares that the orphanage provided my health noticeably worsened ...” she sadly professed, pausing for a second “... yet, somehow, he manged to find us a little cottage where to live, and also found a job … though I should say jobs … he work hard, so hard for my sake, and every penny he made he provided us food, and the expenses for the best doctors we could afford. And now, his efforts have somehow paid off … according to my physician, it is was sort of miraculous ...” she skeptically snickered “... but I do seem to be well ...” she concluded sadly remaining silent.
“That is grand news … I am sure he was incredibly happy to hear as much …” commented Yutaka, praying to all the gods that even this woman's loved could return home safe. Though it was a war, and he knew not everyone could be saved, but still, he couldn't help this sort of justifiable selfish thoughts.
“I suppose you are assuming that we wrote each other ...” she calmly commented “... once again I managed to come late for that … I had had a serious relapse the time they all departed, reason why I had not been there. Nonetheless, he kept writing, even though he knew I could not reply, he kept praying for my well-being in very letter. Then, as soon as I got better however … I was the one to receive no reply instead, which scared me to no end … but according to people, none of the soldiers had replied since then ….” she resigned paused “Yet, sometimes I wonder that perhaps … perhaps we were just not meant to be … perhaps this is a sign ….” she mournfully expressed “... he must have felt so lonely here at the port on that day, nobody whom could wish him a safe journey and a safe return, whereas I am sure every other soldier had at least one person … it must have been awful … so awful …” she lowly stated, biting her lower lip, as her eyes got watery.
“You could not help it, it was not your fault … and form the way you describe him … I am sure he knew, and truly did not expect anything from you at all ms. ...” the brunette tried to console “... all we can do is hope and pray at this point, and-” kept encouraging the brunette, but he was suddenly interrupted by the woman's rather shocked sounding voice.
“Dear God ...” she exclaimed staring in the distance, and at that very moment, Yutaka had no idea why it took him so long to react, maybe it was the fear of turning around and not finding the only thing he thought could generate such a reaction, but when he finally did turn to face the horizon and witnessed a familiar shape becoming larger, and clearer, his heart stopped for a second “... are you seeing what I am seeing mr. Uke? Is that really ... are they ...” dazedly spoke the lady. As the ship got closer, the England flag and the relative military emblem became noticeable, as they freely waved in the air, and all that Yutaka could do was silently nod, while his heart began to race at dangerous speeds. The ship was still far, but he couldn't forget a shape he'd spent watching disappear.
They were back, indeed they were finally back. However, who was?
Yutaka's rejoicing was abruptly halted when the dreadful question forced itself into his head. All of a sudden all happiness turned int fear, and the irony of it all was almost more painful than all the waiting he'd had to bear. The situation of not wanting to know if his beloved wasn't going to be among the survivors on that ship, but also wanting for the ship to finally arrive. It was was in so many ways rather cruel and nerve-wracking at its best, and his heart just didn't seem to be able to stop its frantic beating, beat which he knew, and he knew darned well, would instantly cease if Akira were to not come out of that ship.
A horn suddenly blew from the lighthouse, and a young boy's voice was cheerfully bellowing in the air "They are back! They are back!”. Not too later, the doctor could sense bells ringing in the distance, and the port which only had himself and ms. Ringo, was slowly began to crowd. The brunette assumed that it was mostly all the people living around the port, for the news would have taken a bit more to travel through out cities, and much more to even to get to the Hayashi estate. The bench where they sat was quite far from the main action now, and Hiroto was beginning to become nervous. Thus, excusing himself to the woman for a second, he walked away with the animal, and stopped by the first bar-looking object he could find, and secured the horse.
“Now listen well Hiroto, I will not be away for too long, alright? There is a person I have being dying to see for so long now, so you need to stay here and behave … understood?” he gently ordered, while stroking his white mane “... good” he concluded, and walking back to the lady, they then both went to join the crowd as the ship was finally clearly distinguishable.
As expected, the eagerness with which the crowed had flowed had quickly turned into silence. Not a person in the crowd spoke a single word, and as the brunette was sure he was also, they all looked and acted apprehensive. Most of the women had their hands joint and head lowered in pray, the men simply stood tall and silent, and children held the hands of whomever was around them. Just that scene, the waiting scene, had been enough to make the brunette even more anxious.
But Akira had promised, hadn't he? He promised he'd come back to him, and Yutaka had held tight to that promise for almost a year now. Held extremely tight to it, especially when letters stopped arriving, when nightmares started appearing, when people's general insecurities and prophecies of doom began to pollute his thoughts. When everything seemed dark, merely that promise, which had absolutely no reason to hold in such an uncontrollable situation like war, had been his only light.
“Please be alive ...” the brunette found himself whispering, as he felt his hand being held tight. Quickly turning towards the owner of the hand, he saw ms. Ringo staring at the ship with a rather stern expression, while her grip around hand tightened a bit more. The wait was almost literally about to kill everyone of them.
At last, a good amount of minutes later, the ship stopped right in front of the expectant crowd. Some soldiers were discernible on its bridge, but differently from the time they left, none of them was waving or making any other movements, their mannerism appeared to be calm. The portal then slowly opened, and the path from the ship to the ground was properly mounted, at the same time, the crowd split in two, so as to allow the passage of the soldiers out of the ship. All eyes were then fixed on that open entrance. It was time. As the the first soldier finally made his way out, everyone's breathing seemed to hold still, everyone's but Yutaka's, whose eyes spontaneously teared up, as they overwhelmingly gazed at the sight of Akira being the first man out.
The blond was helping to carry a stretcher with whom Yutaka recognized as being Takahiro. Thus, on a quick brain reflex, Yutaka then looked right behind the second twin to check on their father and Yasuno, but none of the two men was in sight. Still keeping his mind on a positive thinking track, Yutaka didn't reach any conclusion on their absence, instead, as he saw Akira and Takahiro walk down the opened path, he ad swiftly lifted his feet from the ground to go and finally join his beloved, but he met resistance.
“I am sorry ms. Ringo! I had completely forgotten … your hand ...” apologetically expressed the brunette, almost feeling the urge to savagely pulling his wrist away from her grip; he really had waited way too long to be held down like that. Yet, the woman didn't bulge, she simply stared at the ship, and suddenly bringing her free hand to her mouth, she began to cry.
“It's him ...” she sobbingly whispered “... he's alive, he's alive ...” she quickly added, are voice choking in her throat, as Yutaka turned towards the ramp, and so a man coming out of the ship, and walking closely with Yasuno. Sighing in relief at the sight of the eldest son, the brunette was indeed still in apprehension for their father, but with all due respect, at the moment, all he wanted to do was tenderly smother a certain blond.
“I am really glad ms. Ringo! I truly am b-but ...” fervently exclaimed Yutaka, while gingerly trying to get his wrist freed “... I have also seen the person, whom I was looking for so, I ...” he politely alluded, at which the woman smiled, while nodding in understanding, following which she began to weirdly look at him as if wondering why the brunette was still standing there. Then, as she lowered her head, and suddenly noticed her own hand around the brunette's wrist, she instantly released it and quickly mumbled a few apologies. Yutaka also mumbled something in reply, but he wasn't sure about what either she or himself had said exactly, for he had already began rushing towards his target.
Stopping a few steps behind them, in the midst of other soldiers and families, Yutaka's eyes instantly fell on the face of the man on the stretcher, whom happened to be General Hayashi; uncharacteristically looking quite happy and smiling. Great. They had all made it back home. Takahiro was facing Yutaka, and noticing him, his genuinely smiled in salute, and made sign at Akira to turn around.
Almost instantly turning around the blond simply stood and tenderly stared at the slowly, and slightly trembling, approaching brunette, whom was trying his best to stop crying.
“Am I dreaming? ...” gingerly questioned the blond, walking towards the brunette as well, whom snickered-sobbed in reply “So many nights I have lived this scene in my dreams ...” resumed the blond “... just to be then crushed by the reality” he explained, as they now stood right in front of each other, lovingly gazing into each other's eyes.
“This had better not be a dream sire ...” lowly observed the brunette “... though if so, then I hope to never again awake” he attempted to express, but wasn't allowed to properly finish his sentence for Akira abruptly embraced him.
“I want to kiss you so bad ...” whispered the blond, at which the brunette silently nodded, while tightly gripping the back of the elder's red military coat, still cheerfully relishing in the embrace “God, I missed you so much, so darn much … I could have died faster from the pain of missing you, than the one of any bullet” he concluded, soon after which Takahiro tried to nonchalantly clear his throat at the two of them, whom catching on the signal, instantly parted.
“W-welcome back …” bashfully stuttered Yutaka smiling at Takahiro, whom lightly snickered.
“It is incredibly good to be back and alive … thank you Yutaka” replied the twin, as he kept sitting by the stretcher from which his father was now looking up at the brunette.
“Welcome back to you as well General Hayashi!” quickly exclaimed Yutaka, while bowing at the general “... are you … in grave conditions … sir?” he then gingerly questioned, trying to discern anything out of place with the elder, but not being able to because of the cloth covering his entire body.
“Nothing too grave ...” serenely replied the man “... just a punctured muscle somewhere around my abdomen, really nothing too serious” reassured the man, but Yutaka knew well enough that that was far from being nothing too serious.
“He caught a bullet for me ...” plainly stated Takahiro, with a litgh grin “... and the way I had been position at the time, if I had been hit, I would have most certainly died, it was going to hit me right in the head.” explained the twin, shyly glimpsing at his father.
“There would have been no better joy than to have died in war, protecting one's son ...” smiled the general, which was still sort of odd to watch happen, but Yutaka supposed he could have quickly gotten used to such a positive action. It did in fact seem like the atmosphere around the men was much lighter, quite serene. Perhaps, whatever it was that Akira had hoped would happen among the four of them, had indeed happened, and the brunette was extremely elated for them.
“But you did not, which brings much greater joy father, I can assure you ...” suddenly spoke a familiar voice, at which Yutaka turned around, just to find Yasuno walking towards them with another man, and ms. Ringo.
“Welcome back ...” cheerfully greeted Yutaka, as the elder impulsively hugged the brunette, receiving a completely unamused stare from Akira, whom was standing next to them.
“Thank you Yutaka!” eagerly expressed Yasuno, completely ignoring Akira's scowl “... oh and by-the-by … here is mr.
Takanori Nishikawa, and his lovely companion, miss Shiina Ringo ...” he introduced, as the mentioned two bowed at everyone, whereas Yutaka and ms. Ringo warmly smiled at each other “... so where is Takeru? And the others?” Yasuno then quickly inquired fervently searching around.
“Actually ...” apologetically began Yutaka, bashfully glimpsing at everybody “... I sort of, sneaked out of a celebration held at the estate, in order to come here … I had been doing this a lot in the past month, we all have … hoping to catch the moment of your return, so I was really lucky I suppose ...” he explained, receiving grateful and genuine smiles from the just returned.
“What celebration? ...” then inquired Takahiro.
“O … well ...” nervously began Yutaka, turning to his left in order to specially regard Akira “... I am now … a doctor” he lowly informed, making everyone stare dumbfound “Yes ...” shyly smiled the brunette, receiving a look from Akira, which he couldn't quite decipher, as everyone began to congratulate him; the blond was intently looking him over, like in daze “something the matter? ...” he then inquired, as the blond got close to him, while everyone else was lost in conversation
“Well doctor ...” quite sensually whispered the blond putting particularly emphasis on the word "doctor", making the brunette delightfully shiver “... we need to get home this instant because ...” he then stated “... I really, really … really … cannot keep my hands to myself for much longer” hissed the blond “... but before a carriage comes and pick up now it will be forever ...” he then sighed, lightly grazing his mouth against the brunette's ear, as Yutaka finally understood the hungry look on Akira's face.
“We could go back first ...” dazedly replied Yutaka, as Akira bemusedly looked at the brunette, whom eagerly grinned, and pointed Akira towards the direction where Hiroto was “... that's my horse” he proudly stated.
“You? … horse-riding … really?” exclaimed the blond in skeptical amusement, as the brunette haughtily nodded “... well then, what are we waiting for?” eagerly exclaimed the blond, grabbing Yutaka's hand careless of any weird look from soldiers around them “See you all at the estate. Nice meeting you. Bye” quickly greeted and informed the blond with a broad smile, after which he pulled Yutaka away, not allowing him the chance to say something as well.
“Akira ...” called Yutaka, as they stomped towards Hiroto “... I did not get to greet them, but by the way!” he then quickly exclaimed suddenly remembering Hiroto and his people-non-friendly persona “... maybe you should let me go first ...” he quickly stated, increasing his own step.
“Why? ...” curiously inquired Akira, as they finally reached Hiroto, whom was already not looking too happy.
“Hiroto doesn't like people, other than-” the brunette tried to inform, but instead impulsively closed both his eyes, as the horse got on his back huffs, having Akira reached him first. The doctor was awaiting to hear dreadful screaming and pained grumbles, but as he heard nothing, he slowly opened his eyes, and saw Akira standing put in front of the horse, with whom he seemed to be having a staring-contest. Slowly staring from Hiroto to Reita, and backwards, Yutaka silently wondered if Reita just naturally emanated a fearful aura around animals, because after a few seconds, Hiroto broke the stare, and seemed relaxed, or rather; on alert “A-alright …” stuttered Yutaka still quite impressed, as he untied the horse.
“He seems pretty obedient to me ...” smugly observed the blond, still sternly staring at the horse, making the brunette awkwardly laugh.
“You probably are scaring him to death Akira ...” attempted the brunette, as he got on, and lent a hand at the blond, so that he could get on as well.
“You think? ...” nonchalantly stated the blond, seemingly feigning ignorance, as he wrapped his arms around the brunette's waist “... well whoever cares, fly like the wind, and take us home doctor” he then whispered into the brunette’s ear, whom eagerly nodded, as they began galloping. Yutaka lead Hiroto with fervent speed through all the shortcuts that Yutaka had memorized in order to take him to the port, which mainly consisted of woods, and desolated streets. However, as they suddenly came out into a rather flowery and vast field Akira spoke up “... let's stop here for a second!” he loudly requested, as the brunette, manged to stop Hiroto, after which he turned to confusingly look at the blond, whom had already jumped off the horse, and was extending his hand towards me.
Grabbing his hand, Yutaka found himself knee high into flowers of different types and colors, it was like all the gardens in the Hayashi estate and others around the world had been meshed up, and united in this incredibly vast field, which surprisingly enough, no matter how many times he'd passed through it, he didn't have the heart to notice; it was impressive. Akira then gingerly left his hand and took a few steps back, staring and smiling at an even more confused looking Yutaka.
“What is the matter? ...” inquired Yutaka, curiously looking at the blond.
“The first time we met, do you remember? ...” tenderly inquired Akira, making the brunette firmly and cutely scowl, while nodding at the memory of the rather frighting day “... want to meet again?” he then inquired, at which question Yutaka confusedly looked at him “... that day … the sky was quite dark was it not? Saga and Tora were at the maximum of their frightening tolerance for I had come late, and I met with your back first ...” apologetically recalled Akira, while the brunette kept nodding at every detail “... thus, I was wondering, doctor Yutaka Uke … would you like to meet me again? Under this beautiful summer sky, in the middle of all these flowers, with a rather calm looking horse and … you facing me, looking more handsome and breathtaking than ever” expressed Akira, walking back towards a rather emotionally speechless Yutaka “"Sir" … you began to call me had you not?” kindly inquired the blond, looking down at brunette, while wrapping his arms around his waist.
“I was going to offer to buy you another beer ...” sweetly smiled the brunette looking up at the blond, whom silently.
“And I pushed you away ...” added the blond, pulling the brunette practically on his body, in contrast to what he had just stated “... never again ...” he then expressed “... me and you are done with fighting, wars, and all the issues of the world, no more … I have paid all my dues, and now it is me and you until death do us part” he confidently declared, as the brunette tightly held his lips together feeling his eyes about to water, but the blond lowered, skilfully and lovingly parting said them with his “... and we start from this ...” he announced bringing out a folded piece of paper from his pocket, which he handed to the brunette.
“A ship ticket … to ...” began reading the brunette as his eyes grew wide.
“... the Massachussets Bay Colony … in the new land ...” excitedly exclaimed Akira, as Yutaka still speechlessly stared at the paper “... Yasuno was going to go with Takeru, but given as how Takeru has suddenly become so serious with his study, he decided it best to stay instead … and gave me the ticket ...” began to explain the blond “... now that you are a doctor, and I am a lawyer, we should not have any problems finding jobs over there, and I think the change of air would do us lots of good …” expressed the blond, as Yutaka seriously thought things through.
“Well ...” he then lowly uttered. The idea was exciting indeed, and the fact that he was going to be with Akira was all that he needed actually. However, now that he had finally got so close to the whole family, now that he actually had a family, the idea of leaving was not exactly anything he'd thought about. Particularly out of continent.
“Now, I know it is a huge change, and I understand if you do not want to ... but I really think we should give it a try, and if you end up not liking it, we can come back to good ol'England” concluded the blond.
“I will think about it ...” Yutaka honestly expressed, as Akira gently reunited their lips for a much deeper and passionate kiss, which had their hands fervently roaming in all directions through their bodies, while they fell into the field “... we should be getting back ...” suggested the brunette, with the blond comfortably laying over him, playing with his hair “... plus I am currently a celebrant” pouted the brunette, making the blond chuckle.
“They have waited almost a year, another couple of hours will not kill them ...” smugly observed the blond “... as for the rest of the rich bourgeois, they are probably drunk enough to not even remember your face, even if, forget them, at the moment you are mine by all rightful means”
“You are mean ...” teasingly remarked the brunette.
“But you love me just the way I am right? ...” coolly observed the blond, leaning in to steal another quick kiss, while the brunette silently smiled, and nodded in agreement “... besides, I am sure that at least for today … we will all be paired up with our significant other … doing … things ...” vaguely brushed off the blond, randomly picking a blue colored looking flower from those surrounding them, and placing it over the brunette's ear.
“So then it is just us ...” rhetorically inquired the brunette, while gleefully gazing at Akira's face, his own heart still jumping with so much happiness, he couldn't even describe. Yutaka didn't think there were enough gods he could thank, or enough things he could do, to show his gratitude for having brought Akira back to him. In fact, he also didn't believe he could even ever get to love the blond as much as he wanted to during their existence together. And oh did he love this stubborn blond head; unexpectedly, unconditionally, and eternally “Until death do us part? ...” tentatively whispered the brunette, enjoying the sound those five little big words made.
Smiling, Akira took a few second to gaily stare into the Yutaka's eyes, after which he entwined his hand with the brunette's “no, not really ...” calmly replied the blond with a seemingly apologetic expression, which made the younger worry for a second, until the elder lowered his lips to the point in which they were hovering over his, and with a mischievous grin he then stated “... after that, after death, be it Saga and Tora through the gets of hell, be it Hiroto in the vast Heaven, one way or the other, we shall be reunited once more, and never again be part.”
