From somewhere out of the blue...

Okay, so I have a really randomish sorta out in left field, but for those of you who know how to crochet, how'd you learn? Did you read a book? Did someone teach you?

Let me know! I'm kinda curious to learn and I'm looking for somewhere to begin.

Thanks in advance!

L (monalisabeth in LJ) is a talented crocheter (if that's a word). I'll have to ask where she learned.

According to L, her mother taught her "Granny squares" when she was a little girl, but it was not until grad school that she attempted to even put the granny squares together to make a quilt. By that point, she had gotten some books (remember, she's a librarian) and tried to copy what she saw. Mostly, it was trial and error, with a lot of pulling out yard when it did not come out right.

She's figuring out mittens presently and making them for everyone. First try came out a little pointy on the ends, but they are getting better.
