[Bartimaeus catches the very last of Seiya's words as he appears on the CAT screen in his usual guise of Ptolemy. He peers blearily at the screen for a moment before a slow smirk slides into place.

He's not sure what's going on here, but he'll bite for entertainment.]

If I were to be any judge of it, I would say it's due to some magician dabbling in magics beyond him.

[Totally unsure whether or not to take that answer seriously;]

I'm afraid I'll have to respectfully disagree with that assessment for now - I would prefer to think that I've seen enough magic and miracles for one day. It seemed more like there was someone nearby interfering with the radio frequency that these little devices- [gently giving his CAT a tap with the tip of one of his fingernails;] -use, but only briefly, and I'm not sure why.

And the comms can be helpful, if you use them right.

Yeah.

[He holds up what appears to be another small communication device.] They're useful enough for finding people, and you can use them to pool resources or set up meetings.

[They're also useful for beginning games of capture-the-flag and issuing duel challenges, but that's beside the point.]

If you know your way around the comms well enough, you can also use them to send filtered messages to people. At least, you can with these ones. [Again, he lifts the other comm. He can't be sure this one works the same as the Elegante comm does.] It can be pretty handy.

I take it you're new to them, then?

[At first, the sound of another voice from the CAT means little to Riku. He's grown used to voices from the Elegante's comms--ignoring another set from another communicator isn't that difficult. But out of habit he glances and--

[shakes the CAT and taps it a few times before shaking his head] I suppose that'd tell us what we're supposed to be worrying about, then? A little inconvenient, really!

The transmission going out before those speaking could offer any useful information, you mean? I hardly think that is the only inconvenience we may be subjected to, unfortunately.

Anything is possible, but the people that seem to be in charge here hardly seem chatty about anything except just how fabulous it is here.
