You just got me laughed at!

I'm sitting here at work ready LJ. I come across your post. I think, "Mmm, let me check those out". I click on the website and tasty apple goodness appears, I go "Ooooo". Now normally I reserve "Ooooo" for boobies so I guess I threw my coworkers a curve ball. One of the women I work with comes over to see what I am "Ooooo"-ing. Expecting, I guess naked people, she is taken aback and laughs. I say "What?" as indignantly as I can. She goes "Oh, nothing...do you cook?" (Mind you I have repeatedly told these women that I cook). Why are (some)women stunned that a man can do more than boil water?

[I should also mention that the women I work with are very cool and looking at naked people would not be 'an HR issue'].

It's a good question, especially given the _high_ prevalance of men in the upper echelons of the foodie world. (When Jaden of Jaden's Steamy Kitchen posted some pics of the dozenish chefs at the Wine/Food Tasting Week at Club Med she went to a couple of posts ago, they were every last one of them, men. Fascinating, no?)

Although, really, It sounds like she was amused it wasn't boobies, and was scrambling for something non-boobie related to say.

I think because most 'regular joe's' don't cook that, on average, women are surprised that a man would take any interest in food other than eating it. Unless a guy is wearing a white smock and yelling 'BAM!' they can't possibly know how to cook.

I wonder if she actually came over to see boobies..hmm...have to pursue that line of thought further.

Oddly enough, almost ALL the men I know can cook.....TC
