Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Jan 20, 2014 13:38

So, I think I'm going to break up with Yuletide. I was going to say fandom, but I'm not ready to go that far...yet. But I think we need some time to see other people and really think about where this relationship is going.

Thanks!! Totally needed the hug!!

I really would like to get the podcast back on track one of these days. I just wish I could figure out a way to edit it faster. :(

Also, my yuletide was decent this year, but I felt really disconnected from, barely got to read any stuff, and wrote stuff that was in such teensy fandoms that I didn't get much response at all outside of my recips. Although I'm happy with what I did, I'm in the same boat where I am not 100% sure my recip on my assignment actually overall liked it. She left a comment, but like yours, never actually said she *liked* it, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is vaguely disconcerted by that kind of response. @_@

Thanks for sharing your experience! I know you write some pretty obscure stuff and often don't get much feedback, so now I feel totally selfish. :D (I guess because the story that was written for me got tons more hits and comments than the one I wrote, even though they are basically about the same thing, therefore implying that mine sucked, I was feeling particularly bitter.)

It is weird to try to parse the comments, especially from people you don't know - it could just be someone's writing style, or they could just be wracking their brains to find something nice to say. Hard to tell. And apparently my brain automatically assumes the worst. (I can't take it! The anticipation of posting followed by the abject failure - don't know how novelists do it! Gah!) Does it seem to you that people comment less than they used to, or is just my imagination?

I'm kind of in a similar space, fandom wise, as you. I just keep feeling more and more disconnected from people, even though my fandoms are going strong. Idk, maybe we should talk.

Am very sorry to hear you are in like straits. :( But also nice to know I'm not alone!!! Definitely would be great to talk! I know you are super busy, but if there's a good time let me know. Or maybe I should take a wee road trip.... :D

Hey... so, I'm pretty much a lurker, but I do enjoy your writing. I also really like to talk about, play, and laugh over my fandoms, including GW, although I've never done a Yuletide fic exchange.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm willing to chat and laugh and beta (fic or papers!) and be a sympathetic ear or a distraction when you need one. My AIM is desertIruka.

Hello! Thank you so much for the kind response!! *hugs* It was really great to hear from someone who has enjoyed my stories. I really appreciate your encouragement and willingness to chat. :) I'm pretty terrible about maintaining online communication, but it's great to know someone's there if I need it!!

*hugs* I'm sorry you felt bad about YT this year :/ It is easy to get sucked into the popularity contest of comparing hits/kudos/comments on AO3, and I'm guilty of it myself. And I know what you mean about a general lack of feedback on AO3, where the kudos button (nice though it can be in a pinch) or just the general culture of the archive can lead to people not commenting. For what it's worth, I had fun writing for your prompt, which I thought was great, and I was thrilled with your feedback on the story. I hope that you can find another way to enjoy your fannish loves, and that real life things will get better too. *hugs*

Thanks so much for the hugs and commiseration! *hugs back* I am most grateful for the story you wrote me this time round - it is hands down the best part of my yuletide experience this year!! So deliciously twincesty! :D I'm so glad you had fun with it. And I totally owe you a foot-massage story back, but it would never be as good as what you wrote, so I don't want to embarrass myself! :P

Will try not to wallow in self-pity, and instead do something proactive towards making a change. We'll see how that works out! @_@

I contemplated putting some foot-massage action in my story, but I figured that would be too much of a dead giveaway. But I would love to read your foot-massage story if you did decide to write it :)
