“Doc?” Jack turned toward the voice behind him. Sullivan was standing there, a frown on his suntanned face.

“Something wrong?” Jack asked, standing up to face him.

“Uh, yeah. The rash. It's back.” )

Jack closed his eyes for a moment, hoping that maybe he could pass out before another island problem fell on his shoulders.

"Dude, you look tired." He opened his eyes to see Hurley standing in front of him, some fruit cupped in his large hands.

"No, not really." The large man shook his head and laughed, taking a seat next to the doctor.

"Have you been getting any sleep? I know you think you have to do everything around here, but you can rest once in awhile." He grinned and revealed a knife with which he cut the fruit in half.

"Here you look like you need it." Jack smiled and took it, biting into the sweet fruit.

"Thanks Hurley." He waved a hand and bit into his own.

"No problem."

They were silent for a while, occupying themselves with the fruit. “You remember that digestion problem I had yesterday?”

Jack nodded. “Yeah.”

“Uh well.. the fish ain’t helping.” Jack turned and looked at Hurley slowly. “I’m not kidding, dude.”

“It’s only been a day, Hurley. You had what- one fish?” Jack asked, skeptically. “You gotta give it some time. And more fish and fiber.”

“But isn’t there supposed to be some kind of a sign or something. You know like some grumbling in my stomach or a change of color in-”

“Hurley!” Jack took a breath. “Give it more time. Eat more fish or nuts until Locke and Boone bring back some more boar.”

“Alright. Tomorrow then.” Hurley stood up. “I ain’t going fishing again, man. I still got a limp.”

Jack smiled as Hurley walked off and took another bite of his fruit.

Jack took a deep breath and tried to enjoy the lingering taste that still covered his tongue.

"Jack?" He looked up in time to catch Charlie's eye.

"Here for your medicine?" The ex-junkie nodded and took a seat, his eyes drifting after Hurley.

"Is it just me or has he been visiting the little boys tree often lately?" Jack grinned and shook his head, keeping his promise not to say anything.

"How are the withdrawls going Charlie? No more major symptoms?"

"No, but that depends on how you view major symptoms mate." He winked and took the pills Jack handed to him.

"We aren't going to run out of these soon are we?" He looked at Jack and shook his head. "Never mind."

"the not stressing thing." ha ha, classic!

Very lovely, and humourous. And I just have all this empathy for Jack.

“We have enough.” Jack answered anyway. Charlie looked at him, his expression grave ( ... )

Jack looked down, he understood why Charlie was angry and he didn't blame him. He knew they should be doing more, he knew that somebody should be searching for Claire, but he also knew that she could end up dead just like Charlie almost had. He didn't think the island would grant him anymore miracles.

He thought maybe after the first five minutes he could be alone, but the doctor soon realized he would never get the peace he wanted. He heard the footsteps before he saw her and when he did look up at her face he was glad it wasn't another patient.

"Hey Jack." She smiled and sat next to him, her hand gripping a bag of what he guessed to be seeds.

"Hey Kate. How is the garden going?" She grinned and looked to the sky, carefully setting the bag down.

"It's going good, the gauva especially."

“Is it? That’s good.” He answered, half-heartedly, exhaustion already claiming him. She turned to him, a concerned look on her face.

“What’s wrong?” Jack shook his head and looked forward toward the caves.

“Same thing as usual…” He sighed. “Charlie misses Claire.”

“We all do,” Kate replied.

“Then why aren’t we looking for her?” He questioned, asking himself as much as her. “He was wondering… So am I.”

Kate looked at him for a moment before averting her gaze to the bag she’d brought with her.

“That’s a good question.” Jack turned to her.

“…So what’s the visit for?” She frowned and looked at him.

“What? I can’t just be visiting?” She asked lightheartedly.

She picked up the bag and standing up said, “I’m going to go help Sun. I’ll see you later. Take a break, Jack.”

“I think I will.” He watched as she walked and thought about how much their relationship had changed since the finding of the case but didn’t show.

“Hey, doc’. Here for my meds,” Sawyer’s voice called, startling him. He looked up at Sawyer, knowing he’d have to take his break afterward.

“Hi, Sawyer,” Jack replied, sounding jaded. He reached into his bag, trying to find the antibiotics for Sawyer’s arm.

“I thought Freckles would be the one hunting for boar,” Sawyer said, watching her trek off into the forest. “Never thought I’d see her playing gardener.”

“How’s you arm feeling?” Jack asked, not wanting to get into a conversation over Kate with Sawyer. He closed the medicine bottle and put it back into his bag and handed the medicine to Sawyer.

Sawyer grinned and took the medication, downing it quickly.

"Just great, Doc. Didn't think you'd care." Jack said nothing for a moment, shaking his head indifferently.

"I don't." The southern man nodded and gave him a strange look before taking a drink from his bottle.

"So what did Freckles want this time? Anymore dirty work she needs done?" An akward silence followed in which the doctor searched through his bag of supplies, making sure nothing was missing. "Ah, touchy subject."

"I gave you the medicine Sawyer. What do you want?" Jack asked, impatience in his tone and expression.

"Just a question, Doc." Sawyer raised his eyebrows, a smirk on his face, knowing he had already annoyed Jack. He shook his head, still grinning. “Nothing to get angry over.”

“She went that way, why don’t you go ask her yourself?” Jack replied, narrowing his eyes slightly.

Sawyer raised an eyebrow almost challengingly. “Maybe, I will.”

Jack went back to his bag. “Alright, next appointment then, Doc’. I can tell I’ve outstayed my this one.”

“Yeah, you have?.”
