Today I was watching television, and a show I didn't recognize came on. I liked the animation because it moved slowly and gently to soft playful music. The story was about a little boy who picked some flowers for his mother and then left them on the school bus. He spent all day trying to find them, and by the end of the day he had given up all hope ( Read more... )

regretful, flowers, school kid, struggles with genius, mother, cartoon, kurenai, childhood, kids show, nothing doing, where was god when, l, rough past, memories, no rest for the weary, wondering

She loved them anyway because it was a gift from her child, something he had put effort into, and parents know that praising good efforts helps build confidence.

Private to Luke

I've never liked public transportation, even when I was younger in Boston. As soon as I could drive I got my license.

Police officers are generally good people, so it makes sense you'd want to be one. I only didn't because I grew up in a house with two.

I can't think flowers would have made a difference, Luke. No matter what you think any parent who gives up on their child and doesn't nurture their hopes and dreams is not a good parent. You didn't need to be a better son, she needed to be a better mother.

I think you're an excellent son, and I know quite a few people who feel you're brilliant.

I did sort of become a police officer. I work with law enforcement, technically speaking.

I am... conflicted, in many ways. If Sophie gave me life, I should be grateful. But at the same time... what if she was not telling the truth when I listened to the conversation at our house? What if it was not an accident? My memory is clear, of that day.

You really think so?

Yes, you did. You're also greatly respected by those you've worked with.

The only real way we have of knowing if she is truly your mother is to have blood tests done. The DNA would match. However, the only way we'd be able to do that is if the judge compelled it. If your memory is clear there is no reason to doubt that, however others might try to use your condition to confuse you.

I really think so.

I have heard that this is true.

My memories of events are flawless, but I can't remember her face. I couldn't look at faces when I was young.

I am allergic to pollen, and most of the colors hurt my eyes.

Do you?

I don't know. It might remind me of a woman, a flower like that... especially if it was an orchid. It is hard to explain.

Why don't you still go?
