I haven't been able to sleep properly for several nights now, I've had too many thoughts swirling in my mind over and over again. So annoying. X_X And it's not even anything I'm worried about or me not feeling well - it's just that my brain refuse to stop working on overdrive. I think I need work to get back to being busy again so I can sleep like ( Read more... )

I would warn you that you should balance the cost of the railpass against that of the individual trips you plan to take. It is only worth having if you are going to get around a lot.

You will still have to reserve your seats on the Shinkansen or other express train you might take. For that matter, the Rail Pass receipt needs to be exchanged for the actual Pass at a station or JR office in Japan. What you will receive first is just a receipt for paying for it. I have used the Rail Pass several times because I was going all over Japan. However, the time I was going from to Izu, then Kyoto and back to Tokyo, it wasn't worth getting.

I've used a Rail pass before, so I know all of these things already, but thanks anyway!

I agree with mit_souko that you need to know NOW which trips you will really do = actually carry out.

For a one week pass you will definitely break even if you go to Nikko and one other city (Nagoya/Nagano/Kyoto etc). Or Nikko + Sendai (though I still don't think Sendai is the prettiest city ever). If you take a two day trip: Nikko + Hiraizumi, it might work too?

You can check the prices at Hyperdia.com

Exchanging the pass at Narita airport is a piece of cake :-)
