Baby's First Fanfic

Here is a story that Li'l' Duce told me the other day when she was home sick. She asked to read one of my Superman comics (she's way ahead of me; she already knows the names of all the members of the Justice League, which I didn't know until I was, like, seven) and she crafted the following story*.

"Once upon a time, Superman flies. Then he ( Read more... )

Man, I know, right? Kids and comics, I tell ya.

Incidentally, she's been saying stuff lately when she watches her TV shows like "Monkeys can't talk!" or "Trees don't have faces! Silly trees!", so when we were watching Justice League the other day, I said "People can't fly!" and she just looked at me like I was an idiot.

"she just looked at me like I was an idiot."

You realize of course, that that's because baby cartoons are make believe, but grown-up cartoons are real.

She can't quite say "Justice League", so she calls it "The Superman and Batman Show". Also, she doesn't like Martian Manhunter because his name is too hard to day. She calls Wonder Woman something like "Woman Woman".

Also, the first thing she did with her Superman and Batman action figures was make them kiss. SORRY KID, A THOUSAND SLASHFIC WRITERS BEAT YOU TO THAT ONE

Start recording more of these astounding tales and you might wind up with an Abe-Scott-esque comic book on your hands. That is a threat.

I'm sure I already posted about the time when she started singing "The Spider-Man Song" in my car, which goes:

SPIDER MAN SONG!
SPIDER MAN SONG!
SPIDER MAN SONG!
SPIDER MAN SONG!

Also, one time we were watching the "Brave and the Bold" episode of Justice League, and she asked me, "Why that monkey driving?" Which, you have to admit, is a pretty reasonable question.

Aw, see, I thought I'd created the best variation of the Spider-Man theme ("is he strong/what the fuck?/don't doubt Spider-Man, you schmuck"), and I get outdone by a two-year-old who is somehow channeling Mark E. Smith. Wow.

Aw, man. I got a little weepy there. If only there had been someone older and wiser around when I was a tot, to help clue me into the wonderful world of geekery, I would have grown up a little happier and weller-adjusted.
