I am astonished when I realize how sheltered so much of lj (and other social networking) community is. I forget, you know - the internet makes us all just like me equal, with no colours or ages or sexes or classes or economic levels, so it always astonishes me when I trip over someone who reminds me that no, everyone is _not_ just like me "equal ( Read more... )

Dude, I find that incredibly frustrating. Especially the conversation I had with the intelligent, highly-educated woman who flat-out refused to believe that any woman could ever be physically abusive. Because, of course only teh Menz beat their spouses and children! Happily for her she's never been cornered by a 300-pound-woman with a blunt instrument (a phone) threatening to beat the shit out of her (me).

I would like to visit these alternate universes where bad things never happen.

It's pretty much impossible to offend me, but believe me, I would tell you if you did, because you are my friend. I have to say, I think it's often the people who go to such great length to be "politically correct" who cause the most offense, because they are the ones who, when they do make a mistake, are the least likely to be able to make a simple apology and move on.

I think you're a lovely person too, honey. It's normal and natural to question yourself and who you are and what you've gone through in relation to other people (at least, if you have any self-awareness at all, it is), and that's something to be admired. Believe me, I do. :)
