last night I was horrified to find a trail of tiny ants leading to a swarm on my carpet (obvs an invisible spill of something there). sucked the buggers up in the vacuum, but they were still coming in my front door, and an hour later, another swarm. so gross! Yay - Google-worship. Seriously, I feel like I can't read when I'm visiting my mum, who doesn't have Internet. I've lost count of the number of times I've said: "No worries, we'll just look it up on... oh, wait..."

I have a colony of ants right outside my living-room, and two years in a row they used the floor of my apartment as a plaza in their city. So I got so tired of it I stuffed the cracks they used to get it with paper towels. It looked absolutely wacky - but it worked like a charm. Something the noxious spray-thing my mom suggested I use didn't.

So I kept them in for two years; but most of last summer, the cracks were left open. I think I saw about five ants all summer. And so far this year, I haven't seen a one. So... fingers crossed they've forgotten about their nice spacious plaza... ;-)

we used to have piles of sugar and baking soda outside of my mom's house when I was growing up. I haven't heard of talc poweder, but I would assume that it functions in the same way (ie: makes the ants blow up and die) which always amused me as a kid. :p
