maybe the idea that anything that is material we tend to destroy, idolize, or manipulate into something that it isn't? but the last paragraph could be saying that sometimes when we encounter things we make them more beautiful than they are? and talk about the idea of the nectarine being plucked from a bowl as if the bowl was it's natural home. ummm yeah, or just say it's an allegory for contemporary religions. i'm sure that is in there too.
