they are the 5 stages of cognitive development acording to freud...
the theory is that our personality comes from events during these phases

oral is baby- i.e. feeding phase, babys depend on thier mouths to eat.. cry etc...

anal is potty training and instant gratification...

phallic is the discovery of what sex we are....

latency is like brain development during adolecence

and genital is the phase we are in now..and will be in till we die... in freuds opinion everything we do goes back to our genitals and either helps or hinders them...
