Managed Hosting opinions

Does anyone have opinions on Managed Hosting providers? I want to lease a smallish server to do my Email and sell some hosting on.

Is my purple squirrel mail down? I haven't gotten any spam or mail for 2 days.

There were some issues. I fixed them last night. You should start to see old mail get delivered.

oh, man -- we've been looking for a decent hosting company for years, and we are as yet unsatisfied. we're currently on Hostmonster (same as BlueHost -- see which one is cheaper this week) and have been rankled by their downtime (better in the last few weeks, finally). branchandroot has one other idea waiting in the wings, but I forget who they are.

Good luck!

Cool, thanks. I'm looking at going with iWeb at the moment. They're in Canada and seem to have good reviews.

I used Dreamhost for over a year now, and found them to be pretty fabulous.

Looked into it, they don't do dedicated hosting, which was actually what I was looking for.

That depends on whether or not it's Not For Profit. I know someone who maintains his own server farm for NFPs. I can ask if he supports email as well.

It's for profit, and your comment makes no sense. I said I want to lease a server - as in whole machine, which clearly means I can do email with it.

He does have servers for lease as well as virtual servers. Each domain is on a separate virtual environment. I thought that would meet the criteria. As it is a for profit idea, that would be a problem. Most of the MSPs I've dealt with deal with NFP or large enterprises only. To lease a full server is generally going to be expensive, given the MSPs I've dealt with (SAVVIS being one of them).

I suppose that depends on what you call expensive. I'm getting mine for $70/mo, I saw lower end boxes for around $45/mo. Yes, that's a whole machine to myself.

Many customers have been completely satisfied with the results of Managed hosting. Given the variety of hosting options available, this alternative deducts the grueling management responsibilities of maintaining a server and network.
